Father's Song and Wedding Music

Hi all,

Firstly, I wish I could invite u all to my wedding, I'm playing all Prince music throughout the ceremony and reception. A lot of people say there's no way there's enough P music for a whole wedding, but we all know that's not the case. Anyway, I would love to play Father's Song while I walk down the aisle however the only version I have of it is live and not the best quality. Do any of you know of where a can find another version or a way to get the music transposed into notation for someone to play? I've heard of computer programs that you can feed the music into and the notes come out; where can I find such a thing? Also if any of you are musicians and can translate/pose it for me much thanks already. All help in this matter is greatly appriciated!
Love 4 1 another,
Tuffycat

If you get a copy of the Purple Rain songbook, in it is a copy of the sheet music for Father's Song. The 2nd part of the song includes a march, which could be really cool during a bridal march if slowed down a bit and perhaps arranged a bit differently. Any good piano player should be able to work on it for you and maybe even transcribe the song from ear so that you wouldn't need the sheet music. Peace, and blessings to you on your special day!

I feel sorry for your guests if you are only playing Prince through your reception. It makes you look like a fam and most people don't really like him all that much. Remember these people are giving up something (time/money/etc) to come to your wedding so its not all about you.

Yes because the most fun weddings I have been at have been the ones where everyone sits in chairs and leaves early because the couple chooses obscure songs that nobody knows or enjoys. There is nothing more fun then an empty dance floor.

well like most dance clubs, maybe it's not about whether the crowd knows the song or not but whether the song is danceable? shrug

lol

Yes, the wedding is all about the guests of honor. You do want to accomodate your guests, but the day and all you want it to be is really about the Bride and Groom.

I do get your point as I wouldn't do it either. Just be glad you're not invited.

Yes of course. You're right it is about love.

I was merely talking about the events of it all. Those should be, I think, up to the Bride and Groom to decide. I think it should be a balance of what you want vs what your guests will handle.

When I'll get married I'll play just Mental Destruction then. Damnit, it's MY day.

Father's song is "freely" available from most filesharing programs. Don't bother with MIDI conversions, that'll sound like crap. And I would strongly recommend you should play other music than just Prince. Just for the sakes of taste, if not for anything else.

Thanks for all the input. I good compromise will be to play Prince during the ceremony (instrumentals) and reception but then after all the traditional reception stuff, we turn it out into a "club" atmosphere with everything from Maroon 5 to Lil Jon to Madonna to Stevie Wonder. Don't forget the Soul Train Line and Electric Slide must go down b4 night's end!

Love Ya'll
