i wouldn't mind sometime if prince took a year or two off and really put the time and effort into overseeing a nice reissue collection of all his old albums...but really, and i mean *REALLY* pay attention to detail - the remastering, the quality of any demo/unreleased material related to each album, the liner notes (including really comprehensive song credits tellin' us who played on what), and a nice art and package design.

i know it's still not exactly the most ideal time for such a project, but i really look forward to this happening one day, and i'm sure it will. hopefully sooner than i think. i don't mind if we don't get new prince stuff for a while if we get new, expanded and annotated versions of all the classic albums.

That's true. Prince doesn't take long to record enough material for a new album - he's not some band who slave for years trying to get the perfect song or mix right. He could release a dozen albums tomorrow with the material he's recorded, probably even recently. The real question is, what is he waiting for? What's preventing him from releasing it this minute? Part of his argument with Warners was that they wanted him to stagger his releases more and he wanted to release it as he finished it - and now he appears to be staggering releases for maximum impact himself.

Even the odd new track on the NPGMC site would be nice...

Well, maybe he has other things to think about that aren't related to music...like a baby...(hint, hint)
Come on now...the man is the King when it comes 2 multitasking. Tell me he can't do 2 things at once. I tell ya , he's jus waitin for us to shut the hell up and stop bitchin. Then he'll drop it. When he's damn good n ready. pout Well I'm damn good n ready !!! fit pout

It's only been just over a year since Musicology was released, not a year & a half.
There's always a new record in the works, and Prince almost always puts about
1 album a year out, so there's plenty of time yet. I'm not worried... cool

i liked 'musicology' a whole lot more than i've liked his stuff in quite a while. i like TRC and N.E.W.S., but they're mood pieces - ya can't just throw 'em in your shuffle play mix and enjoy it as fun dumb pop music. 'musicology' gave me that. no one song on the album jumped out at me, but as a whole, it was really enjoyable, i thought. i WOULD like something meatier next time around, though. nod

Prince's next release seems to have more of the features of a well-promoted major label album. He's shot at least one video and has been plugging 3121 for months. I think he fully intends to continue building on the promotional success of Musicology and that the release will come soon and will be more coordinated than usual.

U rn't wrong. The new album is xpected 2 b a complete package.
It has been made 2 succeed where Musicology failed old fans of the artist.
It is also hoped it will b come a commercial success based on musical merit.

Prince says my name in one of his songs. In Little Red Corvette, he says, "Liz is on the verge of being obscene" Ha, ha, just kidding. But seriously.

It's over-exaggerating to say he's been plugging 3121 for months, he wore 3121 on his back at an awards performance, other than that the only advert for 3121 were the one or 2 private parties for mosly celebrities several months back.

Not really arguing with you as such, but:

U rn't wrong. The new album is xpected 2 b a complete package.

Wasn't Musicology a complete package - it was released in stores by a big record label, accompanied by numerous tv appearances, a tour and 3 videos. So you're saying it will be more of the same?

It has been made 2 succeed where Musicology failed old fans of the artist.

I doubt that Prince would be aware of that Musicology failed old fans, or even, did it? Also that implies Prince can wave a magic wand and suddenly make music that is certain to entertain fans of a certain sort. The creative formula just isn't that specific.

It is also hoped it will b come a commercial success based on musical merit.

I'm sure every artist wants that. Besides, even without the fan-giveaways Musicology sold something like a million, which is pretty good for Prince comparatively.

So the way you're describing it, it sounds like a 'Musicology II' might be on the way rather than something epic or experimental, aimed at success the old fashioned music industry machine kind of way.

metalorange, let me tell u something.

Prince is FULLY AWARE of how Musicology was perceived by many old fans of his. N e 1 who thinks otherwise just doesn't no the man, or how he works. He keeps a very sharp eye on things, even message boards (his own nowadays mainly, mind).

Yes, the new album will b promoted 2 build on the successful strategy shaped by Musicology but it is xpected 2 differ n the respect that this time around, he's designing the music 2 appeal 2 old fans of his music. By CONtrast, Musicology was designed 2 give new fans a taste of who Prince is, many of them not b ing around n his prime.

Furthermore, there is a reason y there have been leaks of musical collaborations with those from his past over the past year. He knows he wants 2 create 'a record' this time around, not just a vehicle 4 his music again. N there's a reason y he's taking his time.

Until the new album hits the shelves no-one can say for sure what it'll be like.
If there's one thing you should be used to as a Prince fan, it's that he
changes his mind about stuff right up to the last minute. Even if we had full
knowledge right now of the new album's title and tracklist, it would probably
change by the time it's released in September, so there's little point in
worrying about it.
