Just want to know what productions jobs prince has done for other artist that were more than marginally (fan based) successful?
From my knowledge, The Time was his most successful project, particularly when they were acting like puppets. As soon as Jam and Lewis stepped out of line, and then Jesse started grumbling then broke camp, even The Time became less of a force in the music scene. So the Time's success was more or less Prince's success, and the Time was the vehicle.
Sheila E, but each effort that was a smash hit, Prince himself appeared in the project. Same for the Family (although they weren't as big as Sheila).

Has there been anyone like a project like JJ, Vanity/Apollonia 6, Mazerati, Chaka Khan, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, that Prince produced but did not actually sing or appear in a video, that actually produced a hit.
And I am not talking about writing a song for someone. I think we all know that when it comes to writing, Prince can write some masterpieces. I am talking about PRODUCTION.
