Is It Cool To F**K (unreleased Thug Life era track) samples "Get It Up" by The Time, written & produced by P.

Thugz Get Lonely Too (original unreleased, not the crappy eminem version) samples the live version of IIWYG from the sign o the times tour video....

Pac's life - samples pop life

and I Get Around has a vocal interpolation of "The Ladder"

Pac was the only other artist whose music I really felt besides Prince(Some may disagree or say he was just a thug) but when he died it was like there was a void in Hip hop/Rap 4 me. It was like a member of my family had died. Maybe, because we were in the same circle back in tha day (bay area)Hip hop has never been the same. Don't get me wrong there is some talent out there(ex. Common, Dr.Dre.....etc)But if Prince departs before me....there's nothing left 4 me! sad

Nah, it wasn't. Well not the original anyway. "To Live & Die In LA" samples Melissa Morgan's cover version of "Do Me Baby"

Post-production and remixing my friend. The majority of posthumous 'pac material has been remixed.

Yes it was a Prince's version, in the XXL dated Sept02 one of the members of the Outlawz was talking about the sessions for Makaveli said that not to many people knew that 2Pac was a huge Prince fan and that To Live and Die in LA was a interploitation of Prince's Do Me Baby.

"The Ladder" isn't featured in "I Get Around".
And "Pac's Life" uses as its backing a (pretty poor!) recreation of "Pop Life"; no sample used.

have you actually listened to the song? the outlawz got it wrong. it was melissa morgan's cover version of do me baby that was sampled.

listen to both songs and it's blatantly obvious. don't believe everything you read.and i have that issue of XXL, pretty good read.

theres no sample of the ladder in I get around, correct. but there is a small vocal interpolation. check www.the-breaks.com

and i agree, whoever tried to recreate pop life for pac's life did a TERRIBLE job. although pac's life remains unreleased and i'm sure they will fix it if they ever intend to release it.

maybe you would believe your own ears.
it doesnt take a genius to hear that its the melissa morgan cover version that was sampled. its the same sounds. sounds that are NOT on the prince version.

An interpolation is where you use elements of a composition but not an actual sample.
It's been ages since I've listened to "To Live And Die In LA" but, from my recollection, it's a recreation. It's cheaper doing that than using a sample as well, which makes monetary sense.
Great track, anyway.
And I still can't hear any element of "The Ladder" in "I Get Around". That site, the-breaks.com, does have some bullshit stuff on it; but it's also good in tracking down obscure samples. But I do think they're wrong on "The Ladder" reference.

My quick story:

Around 1994 or 1995 I was searching for a recording studio to lay down some traxxx. My uncle recommended a friend who owned a studio called Toyz Productions. I went and had a tour of the studio. It was state of the art back then and top dollar rate for a Baltimore studio ($50/hour).

As I was sitting in a comfy leather swivel chair at the control panel talking to the engineer, he was name-dropping some big names that had recorded there. He said the original Coasters recently recorded there, remaking some of their classic hits. Then he said, "Tupac was here last week. He was sitting in the chair you are sitting in." I was a little star struck, but tried to play it cool. (I was still in high school)

Then he proceeded to play me a track Tupac had just recorded last week. The entire song was based on a looped sample of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" with Tupac rapping over top of it. Then the engineer showed me how Tupac would record his vocal, then record another exact vocal right over top of it. This was Tupac's personal style of recording vocals called "doubling-up", the engineer explained to me. And I have also noticed that Eminem in particular copies this same exact technique on many of his vocal tracks. But it was cool to hear him fade the music out, bring up the vocals, bring up the beat, etc. It was my first time in a "big time" studio.

Anyway, my point of this whole story is... Does anyone know anything about this song? Perhaps it was never released or only put out on one of the many Tupac bootlegs floating around.

Sorry if I offend here , but I am puzzled by why the late 2Pac is revered by so many, he justt sounds like any other rapper out there with a gangsta voice that sounds a bit bored! It's ashame that he passed away young but him and B.I.G were never gonna win any charisma contests and they were hardly musical geniuses! I'd class these in the same categorary as that 50cent guy.

Again sorry if I cause offence.

No offense, everyone's welcome to their own opinion. but if you really put those two in the same bag as 50, you're just not listening.

Tupac and Biggie weren't really pioneers of rap music, but they did take it to a whole new level. In my opinion, 50 Cent is just a copycat product. I find 50 very entertaining and could listen to his album 5 times in a row over listening to Pink Floyd. But there is something appealing in that, talent or no talent.

Tupac may not have have as much musical talent as he had charisma. He could be frighteningly in-your-face and that was part of his appeal. Also he was a leader.

Also, look at Bob George. Sure, Prince probably wrote that in 5 seconds. Not much "talent" behind it but I bet the haters of that song probably listen to it hundreds of times because it is ENTERTAINING.

There is a difference between ENTERTAINMENT and MUSICAL TALENT. There is nothing wrong with either, and many times they intertwine. In fact, Prince interwines both and that is what makes him rise above artists that are only good at one or the other.

All those girls screaming for Elvis and the Beatles when they were on Ed Sullivan weren't screaming for their musical talent. (though they did have that!)... They were screaming because Elvis could shake his crotch and the Beatles had hair cuts that looked like beetles. ENTERTAINMENT.

Strippers have no talent, but we like them because they are good ENTERTAINERS.

2Pac was mcuh more than a thug rapper... he was the voice of all so many non-white peoples.

He was upfront about the deeply engrained but now implicitly expressed institutionalized racism of the West.

He was a highly political figure in the same vein as James Brown. And he was great at taking his thoughts to paper.

2Pac was highly misunderstood by the general white population because he was a 'thug' but he had a lot of integrity and a political agenda behind his music and lyrics.
