RAVE era

MUSICOLOGY was PRINCE'S big comeback, since a mjor label released it.
Why wasn't RAVE UN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC considered a comeback?

Anyone know how much it sold? All I know is it sold 80,000 in the 1st week in the US.

Were any singles put out, because I don't remember the album being very popular.

I'm pretty sure Hot Wit U was too, and I think Baby Knows.

On any note, I love this album/era. biggrin

It was supposed to be his comeback. He obviously wanted to follow the Clive Davis/Santana blueprint, but it didn't work out that way.

I don't think Hot Wit U was a single, even though there is a video for the remix.
Maybe Baby Knows was an overseas single hmmm
but the only one I know for sure is The Greatest Romance.

The album sold atlest one million copies but I don't know exacts

and yeah, Bluesapphireangel, I love this album/era too but I think we might be the only ones boxed boxed

"Man O' War" was made into a radio edit and sent to R&B stations. It got little play.

But, by the time the single was made, Prince was already mad at Clive and Arista for "not promoting" the album as he saw fit. Prince wanted "So Far So Pleased" to be the next single instead of "Man O' War." However Interscope wouldn't let No Doubt appear in the a video for the song.

Prince pretty much lost interest in the project and started working on new music.

Rave sold around 500,000-600,000 in the US and the overall sales worldwide might have been up to million or a little bit over. However, given the more than generous record deal Prince signed with Arista for "Rave" the label probably made very little money from the album. Prince however, well... he got richer.

It was considered a comeback at the time, but promoting last years come back, it wouldn't have looked so good in the marketing bumph to say the last time they tried (and failed) such a thing was just a couple of years back.

I'm really loving this album and I love to play the ballads (The Sun, The Moon, & Stars--Tangerine--The Greatest Romance Ever Sold--and Man O War) on quiet nights. One thing I didn't like about the album is that Prince didn't play much of the guitar here. Overall, it's an underappreciated, yet ambitious 70- minute record that I just love.
