Kurt Loder interview from 1999

U guys familiar with this interview on MTV? It's on HQ now.

The vibe on it is so cool, I'm wondering if there was an extended version of it done. He was in such a great mood, very talkative. Kurt does a great interview.

Anyone know?
Come here, babe.. yeah...

Yeah, I saw this on housequake also. Pretty cool, but just another one many Rave interviews. Probably 80% of all his interviews ever were in promotion for Rave.

But IMO, the better interview was the NYC press conference in NYC.
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Saw this the other night. I too thought it was a good interview - in that Prince seemed really relaxed and actually answered the odd question rather than throwing it back. Kurt asked the questions we fans wanted to know - about what is going to happen to the tracks in the vault, what sort of tracks are in the vault, that was very interesting, and what was happening with the 'Roadhouse Garden' project.

It reminded me of the more recent interview from Much More Music, where Prince was in a relaxed, comical mood and questions about the Vault material were asked.

"There's been talk of some old tracks with The Revolution coming out, is that maybe going to happen?"

"We did 3 tracks for the record, meaning I went in and finished them, and then I put Roadhouse Garden on one side, so right now it's not... nothing's really happening".

"What's would we find in your vault"

"Some amazing jazz work, you'd find the best, most heady tracks that the revolution ever recorded, the ones that we thought were far too gone, back in the 80s, you'd find the psychodelic, more rock version of The Time, you'd find the really erotic Prince, the really erotic sensual Prince, you'd find, um, you'd find the future.

"what's going to happen to all this stuff, is it ever going to come out?"

"Oh yes, I'm giving it/I'll give it/ away, I'm not going anywhere, I'll be right here"

Yeah, that press conference was really great. You really got a good sense of his personality.

One of the great lines is when he talks about a music exec coming to him and asking, "What about this rap thing? Is it going to last?" Prince was like, that was a ridiculous question. It's like asking "are Black people going to last." biggrin

Yeah. Kurt Loder is really cool. He really likes the music, and I think Prince respects that (even though he did ask Prince about the clothes he used to wear back in the day..... Prince replied, asking him if Kurt had his own woman so he wouldn't have to worry about his clothes!).

Well Loder gave SOTT a so-so review. Must have had an off day.

Me too. Do you know what he's up to these days? He's one of the few people who actually knew what he's talking about.. as opposed to just looking good on camera!

He continues to write and host various MTV News specials as well as do interviews and reports for both MTV News and the MTV Radio Network. He also writes on a regular basis for MTVNews.com and can be found on MTV.com reviewing the latest popular and lesser-known movies in "Kurt Loder on Film."

Raised in New Jersey, Loder spent three years in the U.S. Army and then worked as a journalist in Europe for several years. Returning to the States, he worked at Circus magazine in the late '70s, and then moved on to a nine-year stint at Rolling Stone, where he was a writer and senior editor. He is the author of the New York Times best-seller "I, Tina" (with singer Tina Turner; later the basis of the movie "What's Love Got to Do With It") and "Bat Chain Puller," a collection of his Rolling Stone features, which was recently reissued by Cooper Square Press. Much of his other Rolling Stone work is collected in the compilation "Rolling Stone Interviews of the Eighties," which he also annotated. He is still a Rolling Stone contributing editor, and he has also written for such magazines as Esquire, Details, New York and Time and has tapped out liner notes for compilations by such acts as Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, the Velvet Underground, the Ramones and Jimi Hendrix.
