I like the released version of Come a lot, but I especially like the test pressing. It's probably one of all my-time faves:

Poem
Interactive
Endorphinmachine (alternate version)
Space
Pheromone
Loose!
Papa
Race
Dark
Solo
Strays of the World
No Candy 4 Me

I have to agree... I got to see him perform many of the songs BEFORE he nailed them down to the Come album...only disappointment for me was he "toned" them down...

BUT...I still like it.

Imagine the singles & non-album b-sides the test pressing could have had:

First Single:
Interactive b/w Come electronic and jazzy versions

Second Single:
Space b/w Universal Love and accousitc mixes PLUS Letitgo w/ its various mixes

I like this album. I don't know if i can catch it in words but i remember it as a very 'teasing album'.
It is a different album which has a sometimes very deep or brighten atmosphere.I am gonna listen to it again but i know i had something against this 'papa' song.
On my best of compilations i always (only) use 'letitgo' and 'orgasm'. There is no artist who i give more time and also chances to get to grow in my flavour (and i also to the performer's style) as Prince ,still do. This album is not one of his best i think but also not bad at all. It has an own special character and balanced ,that's what i like.
2night i will give it a 'rebirth'.

Are you telling me the testing pressing of "come" didn't contain the SONG, "come"?

Suprisingly, the answer is yes.

At the time he submitted the test-pressing to WB, the "jazz" version of Come had not yet been recorded. As far as why he did not use the "electronic" version of the song... I'm not sure. My guess would be that when he first started planning the album, he planned on using the electronic version. However, once he completed more songs, he probably did not think that the electronic version really worked with the other songs on the album. However because of the interludes (which use the "come" theme), he probably wanted to keep the ablum called "Come", despite the fact that the title-track had not made the final cut.

This is one of those questions that's always made me scratch my head though.

I've been doing the same, and I also have the same problem. If you could combine both albums into 2 or 3 discs that flowed right... that would definitely be up there with DF/CB/SOTT.

This is probably one of Princes most underated albums. I have enjoyed listening since its release. The opening track is outstanding and the remix of Space (universal lover) is probably one of my all time favourite remixes, the lyrics are special! The only let down is Solo, I wish I could delete it from the album!

Yes, it was always bizarre that he left off the title track.

There was an even earlier version of the Come album that was put together soon after Glam Slam Ulysses, and used those versions of the songs...

Come (fast, like the electronic version, but more live band feel)
Endorphinmachine (same as on test pressing)
Space
Pheromone
Loose (guitar driven 'rock' version)
Papa
Race (very different funky horn driven version)
Dark
.....probably included more tracks (the same as the test pressing) but I can't confirm 100%

The thing I particularly liked about this version was the way Come/Endorphinmachine/Space segued together. It worked really well, I was always disppointed that Prince seperated them. I have to say that I do prefer the released versions of Race & Loose, the originals are very good, and interesting to hear, but the finished versions just have the edge.

I still believe that a double cd of the combined best trax off "Come", "The Gold Experience" and some trax from that period that ended up on "Crystal Ball" could make for the best ever Prince record.

Yes, even better than Sign O The Times.

I've been compiling many many tracklists for this supposed double album but I'm never completely satisfied with it...

But we all know that those songs were recorded at the same time. Kinda like Radiohead's "Kid A" and "Amnesiac". They have a different feel to them because he chose softer more funky songs for one album and louder more rock songs for the other.

But combine them, throw in the original "Love Sign", add "What's My Name?", "Da Bang" and "Interactive" and a few others and you've got a 32 song double disc that would shock the fuck out of anyone who's ever said that Prince lost his marbles after 1993.

I agree totally....
I made myself a 3CD album a while back called 'The Dawn' which works really well, here's the tracklist....

Disc One:
01. Welcome 2 The Dawn
02. NPG Operator
03. Come (Part I)
04. Endorphin Machine
05. Space
06. NPG Operator
07. Days Of Wild
08. Pheromone
09. NPG Operator
10. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World
11. Love Sign
12. NPG Operator
13. The Ride
14. NPG Operator
15. The Same December
16. Shhh
17. Strays Of The World

Disc Two:
01. Pussy Control
02. NPG Operator
03. Peach
04. Chaos & Disorder
05. Dinner With Delores
06. NPG Operator
07. Race
08. NPG Operator
09. 18 & Over
10. Zannalee
11. NPG Operator
12. Loose
13. Papa
14. NPG Operator
15. Billy Jack Bitch
16. I Hate U
17. Let It Go

Disc Three:
01. Interactive
02. NPG Operator
03. Now
04. NPG Operator
05. Somebody's Somebody
06. Acknowledge Me
07. Ripopgodazippa
08. NPG Operator
09. 319
10. Shy
11. We March
12. Extraordinary
13. NPG Operator
14. Dolphin
15. Come (Part II)
16. NPG Operator
17. Gold

This album in particular took me a long time to assemble, & includes a lot of edits, mixes & tracks segued 2gether. Each disc contains 12 actual songs & lasts exactly 60 minutes. Here's a list of the main bits...

Come (Part I), Endorphin Machine & Space all segue 2gether.
Come (Part I) is a hybrid of the version from The Beautiful Experience & the original unreleased version, while Come (Part II) is a slightly edited version of the released album cut.
Days Of Wild is a mix of the original album version, an edit of the Crystal Ball version & the guitar solo version from the first NPG Ahdio show (and it kicks ass big time).
Peach & Chaos & Disorder segue 2gether, and so do Dolphin & Come (Part II).
Billy Jack Bitch & 18 & Over are the original longer versions.
Somebody's Somebody is included because it was recorded at that time. Welcome 2 The Dawn wasn't, but it worked so well as an intro I couldn't resist it.
There's a lot of other minor bits, but if I went in2 every difference "I'd b here 'til next september".
