I imagine you're talking about
The Chocolate Invasion biggrin

Its quite great in my opinion! I love Vavoom, Supercute, and
Underneth the Cream. It's got sort of RnB sound but it is definitely
still got touches of rock and funk.

Personally this album was more interesting to me
than Musicology(which I consider pretty good)
and I play The Chocolate Invasion pretty often. Definitely worth
it! wink

3.5/ 5 stars star
If you will, so will I

It's great. I love it. Even consider it to be a bit
better than Rave, NewPowerSoul or Musicology.

Well, maybe not better, but it has more oomph to it
and the songs are less predictable and such.

You'll do good to buy this from the npgmc. For the
little $ it cost, it's a great piece of music.

Some of it's real good, but I didn't really get that into it for some reason. Maybe if it was on cd...

I'd compare it to Emancipation/Rave/Crystal Ball/The Vault; since it's Prince it defies such neat categorization.

It's one of his best albums. Much better than just about all from the 90s and it kicks Musicology's ass.

Great R&B. Judas Smile was supposed to the be theme song to Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" movie, but he passed on it. I think the song would have been and hit and the album would have been put out there. Too bad, though. It's a really good album.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

Yeah, the Vault is awesome.

But there are so many more BRILLIANT tracks on Crystal Ball than TCI....real musicianship and songwriting....the only album I think the Chocolate Invasion is better than is New Power Soul and some of Emancipation. And even that's pushing it. Everyone just likes TCI because of its download novelty factor...and because it has some semi-modern production value....it's not really that amazing musically or song-wise, IMO.

Preistess

Actually, there is an studio outtakes album called 'Chocolate Box'. On the bottom of the front cover, it says "A superb collection of finest finished studio outtakes" I got this MANY years ago - maybe early to mid 90's. The track list is as follows:

SIDE 1:
Movie Star
Heaven
Starfish e Coffee (as printed on the back cover)
Ballad of Dorothy Parker
Joy in Rempatition (as printed on the back cover)

SIDE 2:
Pretty Face
Girl of my Dreams
I can't stop
We can fall ( if I'm not mistaken, this is 'We Can Funk')
All Day all night

I have only listened to this album once and that was when I first bought it. As you can see, many of these songs are ones we are familiar with now. I have 2 copies of 'Movie Star', one of them is this one and the other is on the 'Crystal Ball' CD. I know on the 'Crystal Ball' copy, you can hear 'Jam of the Year' in the very begining but I can't remember if it's on the 'Chocolate Box' version or not.
