I would suggest that saying people don't have a clue because they don't feel the same way about a song makes you come off as arrogant or more likely stupid.

Been there, done that - I have a Purple Rain 'special edition' CD-R I did with the b-sides and the songs from the movie. It's fun pulling up to the traffic lights just as God comes on, you can definately feel people's eyes burning on you. lol

I love everything about the song God! I love the vocal and the 12" instrumental. It's crazy as hell but beautiful. I remember when I first bought it and played it. My dad came into the room and asked if I had heard the two cats fighting.

The instrumental is much tighter. The guitar on that version is fantastic.

I'd put this song on the incredibly short list of songs that I would never play for anyone other than a die-hard Prince fan. I think the vocals are embarrassingly goofy.

It (along with Wedding Feast) are some of the only Prince songs that I know that have made my friends laugh out loud.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Holy moly.....this is one of my favourite Prince vocals. The way he sings certain words in this.....

I would love to have heard Jeff Buckley sing this, although i'm not sure he could have done it any better than Prince.

Stunning.

"To rule the night....."

The nuance of the word "night" in this part of the song kills me. I love it. His throat is wide open (please no jokes) when he sings this part. It's beautiful.

When I first heard this it was on the flip side of the Purple Rain 45 and it was haunting at first but it grew on me and now on the hits the "B" sides it is my all time favorite

The version on Prince And The Revolution Live is amazing too. His little piano fills and the way he screams at the end.....
