We are SPOILED! This musical silence is...

finally getting to me.

At the very minimum, P is usually breakin us off with a few tracks here and there, but this complete lack of new music right now is finally getting frustrating.

I'm always buying music from tons of different artists, but there is nuttin like anticipating a new Prince release.

This is a strange amount of time with NOTHING happening.

It's got me stumped.

How a message saying " enjoy the summer ...I am ...see you next year "

Yeah, I feel the same way. Can't wait for some new music. Someone said the video he's working on is for a song from Musicology. I can't see that with it being over a year old already. I'm sure the video must be for a new song from a new album. At least that's my hope. I also hope Prince is taking some time off too. He was on the road for months on end. Old boy needs some time to relax with his wife.

well, ya know, just think of this - sade will go almost a decade between albums without saying a peep to anyone about anything. she just hops back in her spaceship and goes back to her sade planet or whatever. at least we know it won't be THAT long. and if it is, we have a whole lot of back product to enjoy.

So true. We are very spoiled by Prince. I think I'll put Dirty Mind on

this is a great time to bust out those old prince albums you never really listened to or gave a second chance, and give 'em another spin. it's also a really good time to go out there and discover music by other artists. i had a great time last year when prince was so active, but the fallow periods are good, too - i get to show some love to the rest of my record collection. lol

Does "Satisfied" count? He played that at the NAACP Vanguard Awards. It's a pretty cool tune. Do you guys consider that too long ago already?

Oh I agree. Its more of an observation rather than a complaint. I truly hope he is enjoying himself and just living life. I don't know how he maintains the schedule he does. Its just one of the few times that he hasn't been hitting us off with a new track. All in good time though. He deserves whatever hiatus he takes.

I've been going over a lot of his back catalogue lately in addition to music from a lot of other artists.

NEW

If ya'd like to have a new kind of Prince sound to listen to, buy the new Jamie Lidell (partner of the British 'Super_Collider" formation) cd; "Multiply"

; as well as the new cd by "Roisín Murphy" (female singer of Moloko) entitled "Ruby Blue".

The latter is made in collaboration with Matthew Herbert. An absolute genius when it comes to weird soundscapes. (keep an eye on him too!)

They are both in my player for weeks now! Superb contemporary funky & melodic wizardry, which keeps you gessin' for hours what instrument is being used, and what heavenly embellishment is being created...
Really great songs & craftmanship together!

I also purchased the new Benjamin Diamond cd.. forgot the title.. it also has some Princy moments on there, but it's a bit different, and sometimes way too smooth.. but still nice. (Prince sometimes is also way too smooth for me. wink )

so there ya go. that'll keep you waiting for new material.

ANd know this: when Prince is silent, the walls in Paisley Park are trembling!! which means, he's hurting his guitar and other instruments badly and writing new joints for all!

peace!

(am i the only one, who loves his 'new' silence? which means he's creating! i hope! smile

Yeah, I was at work this morning on Rhapsody, and I put 'The Hits 1 & 2/B-Sides, and just let it play. My co-workers couldn't stop laughing when I got on top of the desk doing my guitar solo impersonation to "I Could Never Take The Place..." It was fun.

A time that felt like 4ever with no new music 4 me was the period between Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (Nov.99) thru The Rainbow Children (Oct.01 Music Club release) the whole year of 2000 was basically no new music at all, the year started off promising with talk of a lot of possible releases a NPG cd, The Hot Xperience maxi single, 7 cd sampling set, Crystal Ball 2, the High cd, but none of these materialized, it wasn't until Feb. '01 were things got a little better with the music club when some new some unreleased songs finally were heard plus Rave In2 came out even though it wasn't "new" just some new remixes and extended versions, plus the music scene in general at that time was horrible, N Sync, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and Limp Bizkit all breaking sales records that year.

Very well said. There is a huge Prince library to fall back on. Also, anyone got directions to that Sade planet.

You're right. But remember that that was when he and Mayte were ending their relationship, the Clive/Rave debacle was in full force and his dealings with Arista came to an end, and Prince embarked on a spiritual journey that led to his becoming a JW. If you've seen the press conference that he gave that year (announcing that he was going back to being called Prince) you'd hear him speak on all of these things.

But there's nowhere near this kind of stuff going on. I think he's just chilling, doing his 3121 gigs and recording muscic. Who knows when he'll send us new stuff on a large scale. For now, we need to settle for the trickle of music we get on npgmc.

Pfff. I'm still waiting on the next My Bloody Valentine album, and that's been since 1991.

I'm quite prepared to wait for another Prince album.....if it's gonna be good.

2. For You - April 7th 1978 - Prince - Oct.19th 1979
3. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic - Nov. 9th 1999 - Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic - April 30th 2001 (1st mailings 2 NPGMC members)
4. Musicology March 27th 2004(first concert giveaways) April 20th 2004(official release date) - ?
