The MOST EMBARRASSING thing PRINCE has ever done!!! Just watched '3 Chains Of Gold' video. Oh my Good Lord! This has to be the lowest point in Prince's career!
If I didn't know all the music this video would put me off Prince for life. It makes 'Graffiti Bridge' look like art. All this rubbish about Egypt and Mayte and the worst storyline/acting created by an ego that is out of control. The worst thing I have ever seen. I am at a Purple low point. Help! Remind me of the good things! “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!”

Oh come on - that video was fun
The worse thing for me is when he changes the lyrics to his songs or won't perform some songs because of the profanity in the lyrics. When he says things like "what the duck" that makes me sick and it's embarrassing. I realize they are his songs to do whatever he likes with them, but I find the whole don't use profanity thing to be so fake and stupid.

Man, it's sooooo bad. I hate the bad Paisley Park acting. I bought this 12 years ago and never really watched it again. It is so up it's own self it's scary. I think Prince would cringe watching it now. all that Egypt/Soul Mate/Name change stuff..... he was lost. This isn't an underground video. You can buy it anywhere. I've had mine for years, but I think it's still available to buy at most record stores.

[Edited 6/22/05 9:28am] Well, he had and sometimes still has this fascination with Egypt, he´s been there and said in an interview that he noticed a strange, buzzing sound in his head while driving closer to the pyramids, and this was way after that video, so I don´t believe it was just a phase. Also remember back in the late 90´s he had this wild theory about the pyramids and Nefertiti and him and Mayte being some kind of reincarnation of Nefertiti and a Pharaoh whose name I don´t remember right now. His neverending search for the one and only soulmate is evident in a lot of his songs, from back in the days til today. Even after his conversion to the JWs he still incorporated bits and pieces of those ideas into his epic The Rainbow Children album. Songs like Muse 2 the Pharaoh are just one of many examples. Of course it´s all weird and I´m not saying it´s a great video, and yes, maybe he was lost or didn´t know how to develop a deeper concept to those ideas, bujt still.... And the name change was one of the coolest, boldest moves in the history of showbiz, ever ! Takes some balls to do that to your career, and I liked that phase. The numerology behind all that is also very interesting, I mean the name change after the seventh circle, at the age of 35, and then going back to Prince after an exactly calculated time was a weird thing to say the last if you study the numerologic background to it. Still sounds like insane and schizophrenic stuff, but all I´m trying to say is that that whole concept seems to be more than just a passing phase. [Edited 6/22/05 11:00am] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I dont mind the lyric changing it can be almost funny at times but not performing songs entirely is annoying as hell

IMHO its a toss up between the LoveSexy album cover, letting Tony M. rap, or the whole Larry Graham saga.....Also deserving honorable mention is P`s actions after the death of his son. Grossly uncalled for I must say. The United States of America.......

His decade long fascination with rap on his albums. I loved the Symbol album, but "The Max", "The Flow"?
Tony M sounds like Yogi Bear "Yo Baby!" vs "Hey Boo-Boo". "Arrogance" was kind of cool, but just barely. The weird TV special: Love 4 1 Another (another Mayte tie in ?) that aired on VH1 during the Gold Experience era. I really liked seeing the songs performed live, but what was the premise to the whole thing (Fan vs. Fanatic???)? Last but not least: The Wedding Feast. Sounds like something from the Muppets. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

[Edited 6/22/05 11:00am] I guess the most embarrassing thing was when he tried to come off as some sort of pseudo-linguist back in the late 90´s. The Tony M years were also bad, bad not meaning good. Maybe he (Tony) is a nice fella, but definitely not a good rapper. But at least Prince was trying to put a Mpls rapper on the map. Some of the Lovesexy era outfits weren´t really cool. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Nothing.
I mean NOTHING--not genecide, not Hitler, not Satan, not Tara Ried's tits--could be as bad as Graffiti Bridge!!

to be honest with you,the 90's and most of the new millenium have been a complete and utter catastrophe for Prince(including "musicology";it may have "sold" a couple million albums but it is still soft and wimpy).
until he stops trying to convert everyone to his religeon and views,i will be quite embarrassed by Prince. i never cared much for people with a God complex,Prince being no exception. people like that creep me out. i just wanna hear some loud funk-n-roll,don't need no life advise from a dude who has been treated like "royalty" since he was 16.know what i mean?

That wasn't embarrassing. I thought it was kind of cute, when he and Mayte were in love and all. I thought of it as kind of their love fairytale.
Anyhoo! Now if you want to talk about embarrasing, nothing could ever beat out those yellow ass-out pants he wore on the MTV Awards! I had people leaving me messages on my answering machine like... Smoked some reefer, smoked some grass, I saw Prince's hairy ass! I'm still traumatized!

I think that "LoveSexy" cover was pretty bad. It was one of those WTF? moments. But I still love ya, Uncle P. “When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a Communist.” Brazilian bishop Dom Hélder Câmara

On the one hand...Gangster Glam
On the other hand...the Oprah interview. I dunno how he feels about it, but I can hardly stand to watch the thing. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015
