Mavis Staples' Time Waits For No One released May 24, 1989 A busy day in Prince history. This great album was released 13 years ago today, with six Prince-written tracks: Interesting, Come Home, Jaguar, Train, I Guess I'm Crazy and Time Waits For No One.
This is one of my favorite side-projects, mixing songs that have the distinctive SOTT sound with those with the distinctive Batman sound, and still working as a cohesive whole. Plus it has Come Home, which is just a beautiful gentle track (and for some reason was also included on the re-release of Mavis' 1993 album The Voice in 1994). Anyone who likes Prince's version of Train from the aborted Dream Factory project should get the whole Mavis album. You won't regret it.

The best song he ever gave away, and the best guitar solo he has ever done. Very subtle .
