I agree with you wholeheartedly!!! I was listening to my Sign "O" The Times LP last week and the title track just blew me away. The lyrics are on point and the music is astounding. Prince at his minimalist best.

Disc 1/Album One of Sign "O" The Times alone is one of the greatest achievements that I have ever heard in music. The man was on a roll. thumbs up!

Yes. The lyrics to heal the world a beautifully written but simply don't compare with the genious of SOTT.

Sign O The Times is the best Prince song in my mind. The music is funky and I like the drum track experimentation but what gets me is the lyrics. Prince is a brilliant songwriter, of course, but I am not sure if he ever nailed a subject as well as he did on this. The song feels like death, sad, depressing, extremely real, but he does it with faux-nursery rhyme, but then I LOVE how he ends it with the hope of new life. I love this song, his best song from his best album.

Do you all think that he was inspired by that Grandmaster Flash song, "The Message". I rememeber reading that a few years back. In fact I have heard DJ mix both songs together.

This song's amazing. A sparse beat, a mature Prince somberly speaking of social problems, and then breaking out in frustration before sadly accepting it. It's brilliant!
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Yep, SOTT is an amazing song to me, i think it's not the lyrics but the subject of the song and the way he relates his story that impress me the most, one of my fav... wink

I once did a comparison on "SOTT" and Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City, I wish that I could find it. I posted it here some time last year. I have always thought that both of those songs were pure genius and both touched on topics that are relevent in today's society. I wish that I could find it.
