I love this song....its a great closer and the lyrics are on point. The vocals are damn good too, his lead is so understated.

Classic, great Prince-album-closer with a message like LiveforL, Temptation or Purple Rain.

Hypnotic. Love the build and the fact that it broadly features the strongest grouping of female vocals from any of his bands before or since*

Just utterly fantastic!

Twists and turns, trippy yet focused, some of his best lyrics ("Do you dream straight up? Or do you dream in Ws" - dunno, just always loved that) and characterisations (he sounds genuinely eerie when sliming about "Spooky"). And, my goodness, how many artists would keep such ripping guitar work so low down in the mix? But, everything is so good in this song, in terms of instrumentation and production, that work as good as that six-string got is cool even in the back lol

Miles

Try and find the Prince/ Mavis Staples version of this on her excellent mostly Prince-produced album 'The Voice'. It retains some elements from the original, but is a cool alternative version.
