Get ready for a bunch of "Lovesexy saved my life" and "Lovesexy is a trip! You just don't get it." type responses.
Myself, I loved the album the first few times I heard it, but quickly got tired of it. Now I think it's a collection of mediocre-decent songs, with a couple stand outs. Nothing great. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Lovesexy: the first Prince album I ever bought (on cassette!)...loved it then, love it now (since upgraded to imported tracked CD) "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. I just bought it a couple of days ago and i too wondered what the hype was all about. I listened to Anna Stesia and thought to myself "is this it?". But after listening to the whole album for a few days, i see that it truly is a good album. I really like "Dance On" "Glam Slam", "Anna Stesia" and "Eye No". How can I live 4 love? I'm calling!!!

Lovesexy is a beautiful album. Whenever i listen to it i feel like i'm being passionately kissed.
The complex multi-layered melodies and arrangements are some of the best Prince has ever done. I'm not sure why, but i always enjoy it best at the end of summer, just when the leaves are starting to change colour. "Prince don't hear Ravel when he wanna make love to his woman. He hears drums and shit." Miles Davis

cha know what? your right...i love love love this album but there was something always a miss about it....Glam Slam can grate at me sometimes...When 2 R N Love is a bore...Eye No sometimes makes me groove and othertimes annoys... its weird, usually if i dont like a prince song i just dont listen to it (uhhh....the entire Musicology album minus the singles and Reflections anyone?)..but with Lovesexy, i can enjoy the songs and then loath them.... its official..im a gemini... I think I’m the opposite of you my friend.
I originally didn’t care for the album, so much so that I thought Graffiti Bridge was a better album. But after years of not listening to it (At least 7 years), I went back and listened to it—and loved it. Sure, the rap at the end of alphabet street is enough to enduce vomiting, and the “love is god, god is love” bullshit at the end of AnneStesia adds a featherbrained element to an otherwise uplifting song. But the album sounds like no other, and the songs are well crafted, if strange, and reveal an artist that understands a good pop tune, but knows how to deviate from script a bit. If LoveSexy had been released just after Purple Rain, I think it would have still suffered from “fan expectations” (this is true of many of Prince’s recordings), but it would have held up to scrutiniy better than ATWIAD. Having been released in the shadows of SOTT made it difficult for me to like it. Now that the smoke is cleared, and Prince’s new recordings move me about as much as watching Kevin Costner play Robin Hood, I’ve grown to really dig this gem.

any1 else feel the same ????? Of course you're entitled to your own opinion on music but defining Lovesexy as `shitteSt` effort is making you look like you are on crack. Lovesexy is (and was!) fresh, new and spritiual. It explores, it uplifts and entertains. It is a step up in the line of albums. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

not that its gospel truth , but according to some Prince associates Prince didnt change much during the whole lovesexy period , there was no spiritual rebirth so maybe it was a false album yeah if we beleived something enlightening and life-affirming happened to Prince which changed him for the better after 1988 . I'm normally one of the people who contributes to a Lovesexy thread with a negative vibe , saying its nothing special . Like a few other orgers , this album never leaves me with a consistent opinion of it , I heard it just last week and thought it was pretty excellent really , but I've heard it in the past and thought its so-so . I guess if I can see half the time that its excellent that enough for me though , the 1st half is my favourite part , the ballads on it are all top-notch really , but the Lovesexy song itself is one of his weakest title tracks to date . Apart from I No , the music isnt that cluttered really either , it makes sense after repeated listens . Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

However, I say it is a false album because a lot of the songs, such as Eye Know (which is supposed to allude to his supposed spiritual change) were just revamped songs already made, and he just threw together the lyrics to fit. It seems really uninspired and forced to me.

True, his personality didn't really change that much, but I think the Lovesexy experience reaffirmed his spiritual belief to himself, almost as if he was beginning to doubt whether there really was a God or any sort of redemption etc. To Prince, The Black Album was a representation of his failing beliefs (although it might not seem obvious to us why this is, Prince obviously has a personal connection to all his songs - he's the only one that knows the true meaning/origins of them). For me, Lovesexy is a trip. It's fresh, funky and beautiful! Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com
