The Rainbow Children. Elevator Music?

Don't get me wrong, I think TRC is a fairly good effort, but a classic?

I think the following tracks are worthy of being on any classic Prince album:

Family Name
She Loves Me 4 Me
Everlasting Now
The Last December

Great EP. But the rest?

1+1+1=3 has a great groove, even if its a poor rip off of Erotic City, but the song writing? The melody line sounds worse than the worst on NPS.

The Work Pt1 is the biggest rip off Prince has every done. Even strangers who hear it think its a James Brown cover.

As for the rest? All Elevator music. The title track, oh please. Its so lame...

Fire away!

Hey, I won't go against you because I couln't agree more. It's not an album I want to share with anyone (and one I don't listen to on my own) In my mind part of the judgement of good music is if people can appreciate it. I don't ever expect people to get certain things, but eveything I own I would play for the right person in the right situation and know that they'd appreciate it. TRC isn't that way. I hide it in the back of my Vinyls and pretend I don't have it. (Though I love the art.)

Well, if "she loves me for me" is one of the best tracks, I think I still can do without that CD!!!!
That's for sure!!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the man's happy, but the song is so lame!

The Horns in Everywhere are good too...I also like Digital Garden and The Sensual Everafter...great guitar. I love his instrumentals. TRC has to grow on you...Listen again...Give it a chance. It is a bit more mellow than previous recordings...but the genius is still at work here.

4 songs that are worthy of being on any classic Prince album and its a good effort. So what's the problem?

I agree that the second half of the CD is great. It improves as it goes along.

I like the CD, but you really have to hear it live to appreciate the first few songs. After seeing the concert, I liked it a lot more.

I like it better than Rave or New Power Soul.
If it breaks when it bends, you better not put it in.

This CD is classic....easily one of his best efforts. There is so much goin on in the music, the only way to hear it is thru headphones....
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I have to say, I love Rave, thought the production sucks, and is much better on TRC, but Rave's tunes are great.

YES!! Those background vocals on TRC sound like a lame imitation of Take 6. And what the fuck are they singing?. "Rainbow Children rise." Please. I'll take "Sexuality's" message and delivery anyday. I wanna be in the new BREED, not in the Rainbow Children! And I'm really sick of all these Najee sax solos. Can you say Kenny G??

I like the melody, reminds me of "Sweet Baby" but the lyrics are clearly stolen from tha Blessid Union of Souls track from a few years back called "She Loves Me For Me." Remember that one? I guess Prince does! And whatabout Prince covering Love Rollercoaster. The Red Hot Chili Peppers did this much better a few years ago. Check that cover out, it kicks ass!

Once again, I hear ya. I thought Gwen's duet could have had much better production, and I loved that guitar solo. I also thought some of the other songs could have been better produced. Everyday is a winding Road was just an awful version and I like the original.

What the hell elevator you been riding in??...lol 8)

And you have "Muse 2 The Pharoah" done by D'Angelo, attach a video to it with D butt nekkid and muscular singing into the camera, and that song goes #1 on the R&B charts, and everyone praises it up and down, saying things like "D'Angelo is making music like Prince use to...that's why he's getting radio play"...

Novy

Three minutes into the title track and even Thomas Jefferson can't resist the sticky stew that this song builds to. And I know Tom, and he ain’t that easy to get on the mic.

If it's ever playing in an elevator, no one is getting off on his or her floor. And that elevator will be jumping, swinging and bouncing like mother sucker.

I've got TRC downloaded on my computer, but I will never purchase this cd. I think this cd is in very bad taste and one of prince's biggest mistakes.Even though I still love him and will continue to go to his awesome shows, this cd has somewhat changed my opinion of Prince.

Calling it elevator music is too much of a compliment. I prefer comparing it to something found at the bottom of a sewage pit.

i suppose the guitar work on "the sensual everafter"is elevator music.Yeah ....Right!What about "Digital Garden"?

"Mellow" is CLASSIC Prince.

And "Last December"can be described as many things, but hardly elevator music.

this music is so much more adult (mature, i mean) - it's as if he's left that state of eternal artistic adolescence...

does that make it elevator music, and thus boring?
