HOW MANY OL' SCHOOL PRINCE FANS STILL THINK PRINCE HAS IT!

I READ THE THREADS ABOUT PRINCE AND THE ONA CD AND TRC AND I THINK, "DO THESE PEOPLE REALLY THINK PRINCE IS STILL AS GOOD AS HE USE TO BE?"

I'M A 30SOMETHING PERSON WHO REMEMBERS THE UNDERGROUND EXCITEMENT OF PRINCE, READING ABOUT HIM IN "RIGHT ON!" MAG BEFORE ANYONE KNEW WHO THE HELL HE WAS. EVEN THOUGH I BELIEVE HE IS STILL ONE OF THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMERS EVER, I'M SO UNHAPPY WITH WHAT HE PUTS ON VINYL...OR ON CD (GIGGLIN')

Please turn off the CAPS LOCK!

ONA is a joke. It starts off pretty good with the first four tracks, but then he loses it. Too bad, I really thought it could have been something better than TRC, but it's even worse.

I think that IT means something else for EVERYBODY. I remember the mystery surrounding Prince's persona. I never wanted it unveiled, but being the person that he is, the quest he is pursueing, I can only wish him happiness.
I have gone off on another quest that takes me away from any personal or emotional bonding I used to have with Prince's music, but found it somewhere else.
I cherish the time Prince's music and I were in sync. But then again; I really REALLY like the song One Nite Alone and Here On Earth.
Prince has moved on, so should you.

After seeing ONA live, I think Prince still has it in spades!
I haven't received my copy of ONA yet, but I don't judge Prince solely on his recorded output alone.
If Prince's mood is as relaxed and playful at the Celebration as it was on tour, this should be an unforgettable and uplifting experience. I can't wait.

I think ONA is pretty good. 6 goods songs in a 10 track cd is a good ratio, imho. Every album by prince has its gems and its fillers and ONA is no exception.

I'm not sure if I'm strictly speaking "old school" but I started getting really into him in '87 and I've hated most of his 90's stuff.

I liked The Rainbow Children, but some of the lyrics make me cringe.

One Night Alone is another story though.
I've listened to nothing else since I got it (the first time I've done that with a new Prince album in quite a while!), and I really love it !!
Even Avalanche and Pearls Before The Swine (which I thought were the worst songs on it) are seriously growing on me !

From and old school fam that's been there since 1979,Prince has not lost a thing!!! I think the bigger problem is that people want him to play his music the way THEY want him to, and then they're upset when it doesn't live up to what they wanted. And a lot of his fans were used to being able to follow him on whatever path he chose. I think that's why all the negative comments started when the word "Jehovah" was mentioned. People started to freak out like they were worried THEY would have to become a Witness now because Prince was studying with them. Bottom line, the genius flows from Prince when he has a strong influence around him, (God, Wendy and Lisa) and as much as I wanted Larry Graham to hit the door I had to stop and think, did Prince EVER open the door at Paisley and invite the fams in for a chat? Did he ever give us the best seats in the house before? From someone who's been with him from the beginning I can say the answer to the that is a HUGE no. So we may not be happy with Larry being around Prince, but as long as he is happy that's all that matters to me. He said from the beginning "My life with you I SHARE", not GIVE. There never has been, or nor will there EVER be another musician like Prince, so enjoy him while you can, because someday he won't be around anymore.

I'm with you R-
He might still have it, somewhere, locked up in a vault, or stuck in his crazy head, but i have not seen it lately. Some people love where he is at but he is not at the groove i am into right now. He reminds me of Van Gogh, doodling. Explanation: You know he is a great painter, uou have actually seen his masterpieces. You know he has that greatness that no one else posseses, somewhere deep inside, but today he handed you a doodle on a napkin. You look at the doodle and don't want to seem ungrateful because, my gosh, its Van Gogh, and he just gave you a doodle! But if you turm cartwheels everytime his brush touches the canvas (or napkin), then it makes him inhuman and you unreal. You begin loving not the 'art' itself. but the 'name' attached to the art. I think that is why i backed off this year. Just because it has 'Prince' on it, I don't half to like it, and thats ok. There are albums i like, and songs i like, and there are some that i don't like. I try to be 30+ and objective. Ol school will always be my home, but i would love for him to give some of these youngsters some New school, even it is just a doodle on a napkin.

LEAVING THE CAPS LOCK ON ONLY CUZ JOEY TOLD ME TURN IT OFF!!

JT...I COMPLETELY AGREE...I THINK MANY TIMES PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE HIS NAME IS ON THE LABEL, THEN IT'S QUALITY MUSIC. I BELIEVE GOOD MUSIC IS GOOD MUSIC. PRINCE LIVE IS ALWAYS GREAT....NOT TALKING ABOUT LIVE.

I believe we can grow with an artist and their vision and direction but where Prince is taking us...I have no clue sometimes.

On record he has definately lost something. Live he still has it. Even if he's too old to dance nowadays.

I jumped out of the serious prince-fandom in 93 (after 8 years and about 50 live shows and a terrible graffiti bridge, diamonds and pearls and prince albums). TRC brought me back. enough said. but its always a matter of taste...

ONA is worse than TRC - that's because TRC is a f*cking great record.

Prince oozes music.....i've bought everything
up to this point, and if the man decided to
put out a complete CD of him humming, i'de buy
that too! The man has vision and is un-worldly
talented. I'm on this bus till the wheels fall
off!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

i've been mesmerized by prince since the first single "soft n wet" roared out of my radio back in da day and i spent all my money on right on magazines and 45's and whatever else i could get of him and others i liked. {SWITCH}

he'll never lose it, but he may clamp down on it.

i don't know.....i like that analogy the person gace about van gogh. that's sounds about right for me.

i'll always be interested in him i think (though i do reserve the right to change my mind) and i'll get his music as long as i think it'll blow my mind. to be honest i lost track of everything he was doing cause after the diamonds n pearls. i got the symbol album, the hits, and then rave.

i got "come" and chaos at a pawn shop for a buck each maybe.
i've been spending my money on tori amos like i used to do on prince. when she releases something i just get it no questions asked. i KNOW it will be good. prince.....i KNOW he will have songs that i think r the bomb and lately he has a lot that i just don't care for.

but when he's on he's on and he's hot like fire !
he still has it.
but he also "has" something else and i'm not sure what the hell is going on.
maybe he should go to africa. lol
