Always trust your lover
Now I guess that only applies 2 her
Cuz baby u promised me
Baby u promised me u'd never leave
Then u died on the 25th day of December

Yeah , that verse might be a little cheesy smile
But i like the way he used 'banana daquaris' in the 1st verse and at the end
he brings it up again ;

Every Christmas night for seven years now i drink banana daquaris 'til i'm blind
As long as i can hear you smilin' baby , you won't hear my tears
another lonely Christmas is mine
cool

yeah, i think that's why i've always loved this song -- it has a very weird vibe -- i don't know if it's the instrumentation or the way the song was mixed or if it's some strange minor key and progression that he used -- or all of the above. very different. love it

It's all in the delivery. If you don't take the lyrics out of context they're fine.

I just don't "buy it" coming from Prince on that song. Just sounds like so much soap opera fiction. That said the melody and instrumentation absolutely rocks.

Love it. I have imagined a music video for it too, it plays in my head every time I hear the song and it makes it even more dramatic.

and I found that prince uses similar undercurrent bass progressions in a lot of his epic melodramatic songs... I think even Purple Rain uses a variation of this formula as it reaches it's climax.

In 1984 when I was 12 and madly in love all things Prince, the bleeding of genius from Purple Rain would not stop.

Virtually every week there would some new song delivered to radio not on the album either by him or some protege ... Minneapolis sound ruled the airwaves... One night WGCI -- who played every single thing remotely connected to Prince --played "Another Lonely Christmas."

Oh, the melancholy! It seemed so rough, deep, and personal. I loved it instantly. I remember thinking... 'this guy can't miss. Everything things he breathes is a hit." biggrin

I like the song, but it feels like it was written in just a few minutes. Also, the humourous vibe seems to not quite fit the sad vibe.

Actully, if I'm going to play some Christmas songs I think 4 The Tears in your Eyes, while not specifically about Christmas, fits the Christmas spirit better.

Another Lonely Christmas is on my Bah Humbug--the irreverent mix-- cd including:

Father Christmas--The Kinks
Christmastime in Hell--South Park
A Lonely Jew on Christmas--South Park
The Chaunnakah Song--Sandler
Oh Holy Night--Cher

and a couple others
