I'm a New Newb (I read the Faq)

I have 2 questions, on I'm thinking of which album I should buy next I have...

PR
Musiclogy
The one you can't say (7, Sexy MF)
1999 (the one I like the most, so maybe you can tell me one similar)
The Very Best of Prince

I'm thinking Sign o the times I read some reviews and it sounded great, I was also think of Lovesexy.

My other question is... What's a site with a lot of Prince videos for FREE!!!

Thank you very much!

Personally, I'd start at the beginning and grow with it.

Don't feel let down if you don't get the buzz you are first looking for with 'For You' - know that it's building like an avalanche - and savour it.

I don't even have all of them, but seeing your list, and basing my advice upon my opinion, I would say 'SIGN O' THE TIMES'

if you dig 1999 you'll like the 2 albums that came before it, dirty mind and controversy.

I don't have the Symbol album, but I do have Diamonds and Pearls, and Symbol is supposed to the followup to that.

Prince videos for free: Check out housequake.com. They've got videos, interviews, and other neat stuff. They've got really rare vids on there. Also, launch.yahoo.com has a bunch of neat videos. The Sexy MF video is editted, tho.

Diry Mind is the album I listen to the most, so I would also recommend this one.

RE: The Very Best Of Prince.

Don't get this 2001 release, get the recent re-release of the 1993 best of, The Hits, it's 3 discs, with the prized b-sides disc only available in this set, and it's a super-duper low price now they're re-released it.

sign "O" the times, the hits and b-sides, are both great, but i agree with the first post...start from the begining. "Prince" and 4U are a little bit disco(they are from the 70's after all). but if you hate the whole disco vibe go with controversy and dirty mind. They are amazing. think of the times...1980/1981..the music that was availabe at the time...this stuff is incredable. Nothing from that era comes even close to these two masterpieces. build your way up from there. You'll get to the newest cd b4 u know it and be screaming 4 more...like the rest of us. lol
BTW, you cant go wrong with lovesexy, its awesome 2. in fact im listening 2 it right now (dance on, dance on...daaaaance ooonnn) love it!

what colour is your money 2day? everybody dance on

It was just re-released here in the UK.

You can get it for a tenner (About $18):

To watch some videos (but not download them) go here:

http://music.yahoo.com/ar...os--Prince

You have to sign in after 1 or 2 free listens, but it's really easy, free and there's no repercussions from signing in.

If you like 1999 so much, well, Prince never did another album with that sound. Most of his albums have a completely different vibe and sound from each other. Maybe get 'Controversy' which was just before '1999' but personally I never really liked it as much as later albums - really, Lovesexy, Sign O' The Times, and Parade are the real classics you don't have, some would also say Around The World In A Day. If you liked the 'symbol' album sort of sound, then definately get Diamonds & Pearls and Gold.

OK, I'm back, I bought For you, its kinda hard to get into but it'll grow on me, but one of the tracks I'm really feeling, the beat sounds like it would be on a 70s talk show. I think I might get the Batman soundtrack next, I LOVE "batdance", Sign O times was TOO exspensive (I'll get it sometime)but I think i'll go pick up another one 2marrow. Thanks you guys.

Check out www.secondspin.com, you can get pretty much all of his albums there at a good price (used CD's, of course). They ship outside the U.S. as well, if you're overseas.

I agree with getting the Hits set. I bought it at Kmart ages ago for around $20!!! It gives a great cross section of songs and if you like a song then follow it up with the album! Least that's what I did cos it took me so long to have enough money to afford ANY cds!! mad lol

That's exactly what i did. I got The Hits B-sides and worked my way from there. 1999 is great and I already had D&P and Parade. I need some $ though 4 real so I can work on some that I am not familiar with and maybe get One Night Alone from purchasing a membership with NPGMC. It is so much fun to discover music and test ur confort zone with different sounds.

I love it too! Discovering a new cd is fantastic - i don't mind if it takes me a while to get them all cos i'm savouring the fun of getting to know new music!

But i hate it when others talk about songs that i've no idea about and i can't get... sad I want to know them tooooo.

XVI, I'd go with Symbol or Gold albums, and leave The Best off completely. If you buy the Hits collection (3 cds) you'll get much more hits, and the brilliant B-sides. I think SOTT the movie is gorgeous, and very wort having. Yahoo Launch has a large load of Prince videos compared to his "unfashionableness". Hits collection videos are good too, nobody can live without seeing "Uptown" and "Dirty Mind"-videos.
