Name your "Best Of" picks A young co-worker (about 19 or 20 yrs old) recently bought the Warner Bros' "Best Of Prince" CD, and told me that she's starting to dig him.
I want to convert her into a bonafide Prince fanatic. If you could compile your own "Best Of Prince" CD with tracks that weren't released but perhaps you feel they should've...what would they be??? My initial picks look somehting like this; - DMSR - 17 Days - She's Always In My Hair - Forever In My Life - It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night - The Cross - 5 Women - I Wanna Melt With U - The Question Of U - Right Back Here In My Arms - Dolphin Any suggestions? Remember...she's a "fan-in-training" so I'm holding off on the weird stuff that only hardcore fans can appreciate. She needs to be gently weaned into that phase still. ALSO - does anyone have any tips as to how single tracks can be recorded off the Lovesexy CD? By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Give her SOTT purple rain and 1999, if she doesn't like prince after that, she'll never like him. ______________________________________________

I don't like Dolphin, but I do love 17 Days and I Wanna Melt With U. I'm also starting to really dig Strange Relationship. (Dunno if that was released...)
When you asked about recording single tracks off of Lovesexy - are you talking about ripping the song off of the CD, then burning it onto another (to include it into a mix of other MP3s?) The best ripper I've found is cdex. You can get it from download.com. It's really easy to use and FREE! I hope this helps. I mean, like, where is the sun?

Funny you should ask this because I was just thinking of a compilation to make for a friend of mine. Like VBOP, it would be in chronological order, but it would not be hits, or at least not intentionally, although occasionally a hit would pop up on the set. The songs intentions would be to show his versatility, and evolution, and to try to best represent him in the year the song was released. I would release one song from each year he's been around, and it would be a 24 track compilation, on 1 or 2 CDs.
The track listing would list both the year and the song title, like this. Whaddya think? Keep in mind, it's designed to appeal to new fans, show his musical changes, and not really be a hit album, although occasionally a hit comes into play. 1978- Crazy You 1979- Why You Wanna... 1980- Head 1981- Let's Work 1982- Little Red Corvette 1984- When Doves Cry 1985- Around the World in a Day (I'm pretty sure this is the one I would pick) 1986- Do U Lie 1987- Ballad of Dorothy Parker (This year was quite hard to choose) 1988- Dance On 1989- Vicki Waiting 1990- Joy in Repetition 1991- Money Don't Matter Tonight 1992- Damn U 1993- Peach 1994- Space 1995- P Control 1996- The Ride 1997- Other Side of the Pillow 1998- Wasted Kisses 1999- Strange But True 2000- I dunno 2001- Supercute 2002- To be announced "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

PurpleJedi said: ALSO - does anyone have any tips as to how single tracks can be recorded off the Lovesexy CD? I used "SoundEdit" to do this very thing. It's a Macintosh App. although they might make it for Wintel machines. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Excellent!!
I'll definitely used the chronological order idea. Some tracks were listed that I forgot about (there's so many 2 choose from U know). I'll look 4 the Cdex and/or SoundEdit and see if I can accomplish this elusive task. Thanks!!! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!
