I predict Prince will have a billboard top 40 hit song this year

i think this year Prince will have his 1st top 40 hit in 6 years on the billboard singles chart this year..it may be only for a week or two but they way they retooled the singles charts now lots of songs are debut'ing in the top 40 based on single downloads and not radio airplay! (thats if he releases a single to itunes that is!)

I predict that Prince will have 3-4 songs on his next album that could be Top 40 singles but he won't release any of them, choosing to release instead a ballad or an unimpressive mid-tempo number which will go nowhere on the chart, killing any momentum the new album might have.

Sadly, in this dead day and age, it's the opposite of how it used to be. The ballads and midtempo songs are the ones that go on to be big hits these days while the hardcore jams don't sell well at all. People these days have absolutely lost their will to party and have a good time. They are getting slower and slower until they eventually go back to the days of classical music. They are moving backwards instead of forwards.

Dont songs downloaded on his npg website also count??
It would be odd if they didnt count

with this format of singles it means the US singles chart will become like the UK singles chart has always been!! very volatile and u get songs entering at #1
and disappearing just as fast as they come.

This is similar to the change in format in the album charts in the early 90s

yes thats true songs have debut'd in the top 20 and dissapeared the following week under this system but i still think its better than having the chart based just on airplay..now an artist like Prince has a shot at top 40 single

I just have my doubts. I thought Musicology would surely produce a Top 40 hit, being his most commercial album in years and with all the publicity, but Pop Radio wouldn't touch it. Of course, there was no attempt to release a song to Top 40 and the perfect single choice, "A Million Days" never was released. I still don't know if it was because the record company thought that Top 40 radio wouldn't play it and didn't want to take the chance or if Top 40 wouldn't have played it anyway regardless of what singles were released. I think AMD could have been huge on Adult Contemporary radio, which I find myself listening more and more of these days. They play new music all the time from musicians banished from pop radio, Hall and Oates, Sting, Bryan Adams and the like. Musicology the album was never marketed right to maximize hit potential and I don't expect any different from future releases.
