Well, as a “King of Pop,” Mike’s been nothing more than a lame-duck figurehead. He hasn’t put out a great album in years, and people still call him “King of Pop.” If he goes to prison, he won’t put out a great album, either.

So, what’s the difference between Mike not putting out a great album as a free man and his not putting out a great album as a locked-up felon?

What's 3 minus 3? Absolutely nothing!

MJ will always be known as the king of pop. He doesnt have to release another song ever. James Brown will always be the Godfather of Soul. Aretha Franklin will always be the Queen of Soul. Michael Jackson will always be the King of Pop. Its as simple as that. His title has been cemented whether people want to admit it or not.

I don't think anybody has anything to gain from MJ going to jail outside of young boys-- if he's guilty. If you're looking for Prince to be a pop star you missed the boat years ago. Yeah, he's had some good pop songs along the way but that's only a small percentage of his work.

King of disposable art is nothing to aspire to. These titles are silly and completely arbitrary anyway. He's a Prince by birth which is more than these other kings, queens, and godfathers can say.

asg: one could make the argument that, for a brief shining period in 1984, he was. but he's been consistently good for so long that artificial titles do not matter.

I'm tired of these endless 'New King of Pop' discussions.
Michael Jackson is still here!

Why is MJ brought up in this forum so much, anyway? Many Prince fans act like they don't favor him at all and want nothing to do with him yet people keep bringing up his name.

Nowadays MJ is more commonly referred to as the "self-proclaimed King of Pop".

To be the king of pop, you have too be very popular and very successfull commercially.

Prine isn't as popular as Mike is, so I don't think so...

He's too good for that. He's above pop;

    I agree
    His music is too challenging to be catorgorized in the lowest common denominated world of pop( not a put-down;that's what pop is supposed to be).

It's pretentious for saying that... wink

The Beatles is the biggest POP group of all times and their music was fantastic...

Now Pop is more about popularity than artistic and quality...
