Are most of the hardcore collectors Male?

I was thinking about this. I mean I'm a male and I try to collect as much as possible you know different picture sleeves, pic discs, promos and so on.

A lot of the female Prince fans I've met don't seem as interested in owning everything as the guys I've met. Perhaps the guys have that geeky trainspotter gene lol geek

So discuss! Female Prince collector freaks give us a wave! wave And guys:- own up to your geekiness!

biggrin

Women are alot more practical as a whole (I don't wanna hear any nasty jokes)

Men seem to be more careless with decisions.

These are just my goofy observations, of course.

I'm a female and I like to collect P stuff, but don't really go out of my way to do it. The men in my life however, have added to my collection for me. So your theory may be true. The only thing I really must have are new releases.

There are just more male geeks in general.

A lot of female fans of male pop stars have a sexual conotation to their fandom, where as with men, it's more of a hero-worship thing. (Generalising BIG TIME there, so no-one get their panties in a twist).

It seems there are more hardcore males than females but I would say most males (myself included) aren't hardcore in terms of collecting. I don't have any bootlegs, posters, or any non-cd paraphernalia. I don't even own all of his official releases.

However, I guess it's all relative seeing as I'm on this website quite often. smile

Hmmm.. Most collectors I know are male (like me). I know a few female fanatic collectors so I certainly wouldn't say that there aren't any out there.

I'm agreeing with MetroArea's generalisation. Most (not all of course) ladies you see at concerts are just there because they think he's a hunk. Most of the guys are there because it's like a role-model thing (and then there's the guys who are there because they're dating the ladies wink)

That's the real answer right there. Women have to spend their money on clothes and shoes that cost more than men's who don't even really care about that stuff anyway. Ever compare the prices between women's haircuts and men's haircuts? How about skin care products? It's bad enough women don't make as much money as men in the U.S. to begin with.

Just kidding. (sorta)

They don't have to. Unfortunately, too many women let there outside appearance define who they are. When most women enter puberty they completely change and become self-aware with how society sees’s them. Even giving the appearance of being a nerd or geek, (or someone who puts collecting music before one’s appearance) is a complete no-no in some female social settings.

Noone "has to" spend $$$$ on Louis Vuitton, male or female.

They've got a $1,200 briefcase that is very nice, but I'm not pretending that I need it. If I get it, it's purely something I want.

The Louis Vuitton bag is obviously an extreme case.

It seems to me however that women's things cost more than men's things and women in general seem to have more of them.

It's all relative. My suits tend to cost way more than hers, but she has alot more than I've got. Same with the dress shoes. I can easily spend three times as much as she can on a pair of dress shoes, but I only need to have three or four, I can't even count high enough to figure how many dress shoes she has.

It's the free market. Why do women pay such high prices for hair care? Cause you're willing to pay for what you want. Dudes will just go to someone cheaper or break out the bowl. smile

hey...I'm a chick and a ollector of music and vids (not so much posters, clothes, etc.).. I don't know that many people like myself, period, so I can't speak to the male/female ration.

All I know is if there are that many more men than there's no reason why I shouldn't be dating one of them!

I can't go beyond CDs and videos. Seems like getting into the merchandise is a neverending rat hole and you'd pretty much have to set up a shrine in your house or devote a room to it. That's just going to far, IMHO.
