ATWIAD Lyrics Question? At around 4:27 of the long version of Around The World In A Day, there's some "ad-libbing" as the databank transcription team states. Does anyone know what prince is saying here? It almost sounds backwards at times. Strange. Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Where the DTT is undecided about the words sung, then this is usually denoted. In this instance, the team would have decided that this was simply 'ad-libbing' e.g. vocal scatting, as opposed to Prince singing decipherable words to transcribe. Ok, the following is what I can best make out...it's some weird shit to be sure. It's not Prince saying it, but actually someone with an East Indian accent. Here's what I can best make out. I have the bit in mp3 format. If someone can direct me to put it somewhere where it can be downloaded for curiosity, the info would be greatly appreciated. Here it is: I look for miles around From India, From Pakistan, from Afghanistan, from ????, Quebesh, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, and they (????? ) around a small village of love, it’s such a sacred village …(???)… Professing love… They are truly enlightened; they are truly fulfilled; it’s a small (villain???) of a village gathered around a statue, thriving in energy (a snake???) Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see

Isn't there some backwards-masking in the album version as well... just a tiny bit toward the end?
Interesting find. But I can only make out as much as you did. edit: oh yeah, and why are only the Arab nations mentioned? the guy speaking it does sound Arab, maybe that's why [Edited 6/6/05 19:40pm] | |

I will listen back again later. My first thought is that the voice might possibly be that of David Coleman who had written and recorded an original version of the song using studio time that Prince had given him as a birthday gift. The link below gives a brief outline of the story behind the original song, which has strong near/middle eastern connections. http://www.uptown.se/2005...wiad.shtml The full version of the interview in Uptown Issue #48 doesn't shed any more light on the matter, as the song was re-recorded after Prince had heard Coleman's demo tape.
