LIVE 8

Prince should be a part of Live 8 to make up for shunning live aid in the 80's. Plus he would steal the show!

Well, he didn't completely shun it, he sent in an exclusive video of '4 The Tear In Your Eyes' which was played on the American side.

Besides, although I love any opportunity to see him perform on tv, I'd rather he keep out of it. There's always something 2-faced about celebrities who like to be seen at these events as deeply concerned about the plight of the poor, then helicopter back to their unnecessarily large mansions.

Yeah but this time round theyre not after donations so as to offer aid. They want to give as higher profile as possible to the world about dropping the crippling debt.

The man should do it. Sign o the times...

Prince was getting people to bring cans of food to his concerts to help people when Bob Geldof was a bullshit singer in the Boomtown Rats. And when most of the "We Are The World" folks were shining up their Benzs. Prince owes Live 8 nothing.

Hey, I didn't know about Prince asking fans to bring canned food for the poor to concerts. How thoughtful and charitable. Thanks for that Cranshaw thumbs up!

He's still not been added to the bill, though i've read newspapers saying he would be one of the likely performers.

I don't think Prince was 'shunning' Live Aid nor do I think he 'should' perform at Live 8. I can’t speak on his behalf but I’m sure he does plenty to help others it just isn’t heralded by trumpet blasts.

How much impact did Live Aid have anyway? Looking back it made very little impact in fact circumstances are much worst now. Will Live 8 turn things around? Realistically; no. This problem is beyond mans capability to solve, he neither has the will or desire. I say that because there is plenty of food to go around. Starvation is caused by many factors but mainly war and greed. Yes “man has dominated man to his injury.”- Ecclesiastes 8:9. Regarding poverty a United Nations report released in November 2003, The Independent of London stated: “The world is getting hungrier.” It added: “Across the world an estimated 842 million people are today undernourished-and that figure is again climbing, with an additional 5 million hungry people every year.”

Now I don’t want to come across as cynical, but I do think it’s important to be realistic. Does this mean we shouldn’t bother trying to help? No. Nor does it mean I have no respect for those trying to change the world for the better on the contrary I admire and respect these people, if only there were more people like them.

All I am saying is the efforts of Live 8 will only help a small number of people. It’s only a mere drop in the ocean.

He should do Live 8, but if he does not, don't conclude it's because he's an heartless sono fa b itch. The fact he gave 4 The Tears in Yours Eyes (a song he obviously cared about) for inclusion in the We are the World LP (was it called USA for Africa?) and premiered the video on Live Aid tells you he is not against participating in principle. At the time, he felt uncomfortable participating in the We Are the World single not because he disliked the idea of helping, but because he did not, at the time, work on songs other than his own. His career at the time was about Total Control of The Creative Process -- appearing on a recording controled by others was not part of the masterplan. Since then, he has collaborated within the context of other people's production (most recently with Stevie Wonder).

Yeah, but this time around it isnt about charity and donating money. Its about raising awareness for dropping the debt to the poorest countries which cripples them economically. It is designed to take place at the same time as the G8 summit.

The more performers there are, the larger the interest from the public. There is no begging for money this time around, just raising the conscousness of the world to put pressure on our governments...

It is quite apparent now that providing billions in aid is not solving anything. That is why we need to drop the trillions of dollars in debt that is owed the West - the interest alone is beyond their economies...

Prince should be there championing the cause. The whole world needs to be together on this or Africa will forever be our shame in the world.

He did that during the Purple Rain tour. I remember these large barrels outside to drop food into.

During other tours he has requested people bring old clothes, jackets, etc. for local homeless shelters.

We all help in our own way. We all have our own "causes" to believe in and no one could possible participate or help in every single cause out there. Prince has done a great deal of charity work over the years and I think it is extremely unfair to judge him by not participating in this one.
