1999 & Deacon Blues

I was listening to Steely Dan's Aja last night.

I have always wondered if Prince was referring to the line in "Deacon Blues":
"I cried when I wrote this song/ sue me if I play too long"
1999 could be a reference to it, but it could just be a coincidence, too.

I've always felt that Prince would like Steely Dan--it's definitely real music played by real musicians.

No, I do think he was refering to Steely Dan. Prince has done this with the title "Ice Cream Castles" as well.
