How come this song wasn't a big hit? Hell, I was mesmerized when he did this song. "Cool ass Prince"

That's one of my very favorite P songs. I love it on so many different levels and it really brings back a lot of memories.
I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger hit too.

I don't think it was ever a single but I agree, this one amazing song...

I love love LOVE this song. In fact, it is one of my favourite slow Prince songs. It is just so different and weird,something you wouldn't expect in a slow song. It is everything a slow song is NOT supposed to be but turned out Amazing! Not to mention his crazy screaming at the end. LOVE IT!

Mariah Carey covered this song as a "bonus" track on her "The #1s" album. She does it justice.

I remember when I first got the album, and kept waiting for the moment when "The Beautiful Ones" would be released as a single -- "that'll show 'em!" But instead, he released "I Would Die 4 U" and "Take Me With U." Hrmph! "Computer Blue" should've been a single as well.

the beautiful ones is only the best song on Purple Rain + one of his best songs evr!!!!

If we could put the history of rock music on some kind of graphic chart, we'd see that this song was one of those moments that it shift forward.

The ONA version is pretty great. The piano kind of 'sinks in' on the crowd six or seven seconds in, the spark ignites, folks catch their breath, then the vocal comes in and the entire place is on fire....

Yes, I love the live version they did the last two tours. They rock it!

This is one of my fave prince songs. That crazy hot singing at the end drives me wild! prince makes me melt when he does slow songs.

I put side one of Purple Rain on last nigth when I was going to bed specifically to hear this song ^_^.

LOVE this song. Had to pull out my PR cd to hear it again because of this thread.
