yes, great song! I always wondered why the books from Uptown (Days of Wild or Turn It Up) call this one an "ordinary ballad"...

I'm hoping this song shows up on a Purple Rain remaster or a Crystal Ball II if one ever comes out.

I wish P would sell stuff thru his website like he does, but then license out other albums to various record companies--while still owning the masters to them. Make a master to Crystal Ball II, Roadhouse Garden, etc and license them out--with a label on each saying "From The Paisley Vaults" so people know the difference between an old album and new---i think the general public thought 'Come', 'Crystal Ball', 'Chaos & Disorder", etc were bonafied new Prince albums and expected better music when they were just vault albums to me.

electric intercourse is the shit. i love it. the studio version is rather ordinary sounding, which is more than likely what the books were referring to. but the live version from 83, is amazing.
Keep your headphones on.

The song is amazing...why he didn't include it in the Purple Rain Soundtrack is beyond me...

the live version is alot better than the rehearsal edit especially how Delirious segues right into Electric Intercourse and the opening lyrics: " Feel some kind of love 4 u, don't know ure' name...this is the kind of love that makes 2, i want u and i'm not ashamed." those might be ordinary lyrics to some people but it makes sense especially when u fall 4 someone u out of the blue.

Not only is 'Electric Intercourse' a great song, but it was part of a great performance as well.

I'm fortunate enough to own a copy of the benefit performance. Incidentally, that night's show was Wendy's first live performance with the Revolution. Also it was the first time the Purple Rain material was publicly performed.

Anybody else have it?

Is Electric Intercourse the follow up to Vanity 6's Vibrator?

"Electric Intercourse" is a great song, perhaps one of the greatest songs Prince ever wrote. I absolutely love the piano in that song, especially at the very end, and Prince sings that one little note at the very end of the song. Love it!!!!!

Wasn't it replaced by the Beautiful Ones? That was probably better for the movie, but Electric Intercourse is a very heartfelt song. He really goes for it live on this one.

'Electric Intercourse' is an unreleased track that was originally slated to appear on 'Purple Rain' but was ultimately replaced by 'The Beautiful Ones'.

My understanding is there is a rehearsal bootleg of the song in circulation but probably the most widely recognized version is from the August 3rd, 1983 show Prince did in Minneapolis. It was a benefit concert for the Minnesota Dance Theatre and took place at First Avenue. The show was Wendy's debut with the Revolution and also marked the first time 'Let's Go Crazy', 'Computer Blue', 'I Would Die 4 U', 'Baby I'm A Star', and 'Purple Rain' were performed publicly.

In 'Dancemusicsexromance', Per Nilsen describes the show as "generally regarded as one of the most exciting shows he has ever played". And I am blessed to have the entire thing on VHS.

I'll be reading that book over the summer and hopefully I can get my hands on the tape, and find the song somewhere.

Thanks for answering my deserted question! wink

Thats been a classic fav of mines 4 years now...as far as the First Ave show...with all the many concerts & tapes I have its interesting for a few reasons...showcasing the somewhat rawer versions of some songs that would make up "Purple Rain" and because it was Wendy's first live show with Prince. It was noted that this show was Princes "Sweatiest" show. And yeah...the heat that night in First Ave was pretty hot and the sweat he worked up overtook his hairdo...lol, Its classic.

Its a song that I wish he would put out still...Other then the Video version I used 2 have a rehersal version where he can B heard saying (Wake Up Wendy) in a stern voice.

that is an amazing song. it needs to be released. it is one of his most lyrically sound ballads. the melody is great as well.
