To judge Prince's funk correctly you must be familiar with those funkateers ... So, maybe after watching this show the newbees get a better view of Prince's music in historical perspective, so a better based discussion is established??

The roots of funk are 100% derived from the cowbell.

It's been an interesting series, if a little sweeping, but generalisations and condensing of information is usual for TV documentaries. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

indeed ... they made it look like JB stopped after "Sexmachine", Sly stopped after "There's a Riot Going On", Marvin stopped after "What's Going On", and George didn't excist 'till 1977 ... But, it's the first Funk documentary I ever saw broadcasted ... and it was pretty cool. But I'm glad I own the Mothership Connection Live DVD and JB's Body Heat.

I don't have the Mothership Live DVD, I really should get it because I am eager to see it. I was kinda disappointed that the next show will be about Mary J. Blige and the current wave of Black artists - I mean they went from George Clinton, to a few seconds of Public Enemy, and then next time onto Mary J. Blige. I mean - There were Black funk and soul artists in the 80s right? I didn't dream that up?! Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

I have to warn you 'bout the Mothership Connection DVD: the picture-quality isn't so good (taken from the VHS, which is very dark). But the concert is great. It's very cheap in the Netherlands anyway (5,99 euro at the FRS). I guess the BBC-serie is partly about political involvement of black music ... the 80's funk isn't political at all .... it's just about the party, and that's great too.

If Funk was only that simple, everybody would be doing.

The series was cool, but 2 side-step Prince (n countless others) was a mistake.
And Mary is political? Please. She's a fool. love

That was a fantastic show; I really wanna be hooked up with some Dr. Funkenstein now; and despite my Stevie Wonder-lovin' I'd never heard living for the city which is great.
But it really annoyed me how it focused on funk now being hip hop; completely ignoring modern funk pioneers such as Prince. Oh well, a good show anyway.

I'm sure on the promo I saw Outkast.
I mean, they're gonna talk about Outkast, but not Prince? It seems they've skipped an entire generation. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......
