hah , I've never seen any explanantion of that which makes any real sense, my guess is its probably a metaphor for something completely unlike Moonbeam levels , in the same way that he uses "Purple Rain" as a metaphor .

Great link. Interesting read on the origins of the "7" lyrics.

7 - There's been a lot of great stuff written about 7 by fans over the years - basically it relates to the Book of Revelation, that is many lines from the song related directly, or are lifted from (with a little editing) from passages in that book in the Bible.

Elephants & Flowers is pretty self-explanatory, It's a simple celebration of Prince's belief that God made everything from the tiny and fragile (flowers) to the giant and strong (elephants) - He made these and every living thing in between these two extremes.

Alphabet St. I'll leave to someone else. smile

7 is more of a dual song thing. What makes it most confusing is that the segues that were supposed to explain the concept of the album were left off. While it does reference Revelations it's also about the 7 (or is it 6 and the King..making it 7) soldiers sent by the King of Cairo to kill Prince because he ran off with the Princess.

Oh 7 (soldiers) amd we'll watch them fall
(they) Stand in the way of Love and we will smoke them all

What makes this song stand out for me is that he did seemlessly integrate Revelations and the story.

regarding the "18 & Over" lyric:

I think he's talking about when you fuck and it's too dry and gritty. WC usually stands for water closet (freaky european term). Wet towel could be a reference to lube or just a wet towel. Maybe Prince and the woman tried fucking, it was too dry and so they cleaned up in the WC and "Took a trip to electricity" - vibrator. My guess and I apologize for being so blatant.

My question - "like Frank and Beverly without Maze". Is this some television reference

Also, what are "trolley cars that juggle seventeen"?

Awesome thread! Let's keep it going.

Trolley Cars...girls? I think. 17 yr old girls.

Let's Go Crazy is about God and satan. "Let's go crazy" means let's get positive for God and all things heavenly.

"Purple banana" is heaven, being put in the truck means you've found it.

"De-elevator" is the devil. We can't let him bring us down.

and why the hell was the chick in Little Red Corvette walking around with used condoms in her pocket?

Because she is a "fast woman" (whore). Hence the metpahor of a fast car... Little Red Corvette.

Thanks, but if I remember correctly, Prince explained the going crazy as a metaphor for God, and de-elevator as satan, in the Chris Rock interview.

You couldn't say "God" on top 40 radio on 1984.

I never took that comment about Lets Go Crazy too seriously , at the time Prince was slowly sinking into Jehovahsville , he probably wanted to reinterpret every song he'd ever made into a God /Satan battle and distance himself from the nasty sexual stuff he'd done as well. I always took Lets Go Crazy as being a song about living life while you can cos its short and theres lots of things that can bring you down (ie the de-elevator) .

That's a great mystery. Might just be a name he uses. Like Morris Day and "Grace".
