Do certain Prince albums make u think about any things n particular?

With certain artists n certain albums (e.g. David Bowie's Low), eye'm taken on some sort of trip thru-out the xperience, which makes me reflect on certain things. Eye may not have consciously thought about, or even no xactly what it is eye ponder upon at thes times, but perhaps it is these kinds of reflections that subconsciously draw me back 2 revisiting the xperience.

R there any Prince albums which u particularly draw upon b cause they make u think/feel n a certain way, and how is it they tend 2 leave u feeling?

Eye'm not sure y, but as a boy, eye often found myself njoying snoozing 2 the album, Around The World N A Day. Eye think it may b b cause it's something of a magical album, n eye may have njoyed that feeling of escapism when eye slept. Eye'm sure eye couldn't have been the only 1 doin a lil funky jig under my big, fat, fluffy, white duvet, when the beat of Tamborine kicked n.

TRC makes me think of a jazz club and a JW church I once accompanied my friend to.

SOTT makes me think of Paris,Germany,Holland and other places Prince toured around that time.

Lovesexy makes me think about water

Batman reminds me of the comic book character of the same name because I've always been a huge fan

Dimonds and Pearls reminds me of my high school graduation(Class of 91 baby)

The rest remind me of sex for some strange reason hmmm

"The Truth" always makes me feel very collected
and focused. I don't really know how to describe
it but the music seems ehm, firmamental, in that
is seems to come from a very wide and clear and
boundless place.

I don't know how to describe it. It's like you
start falling backward through space, something
like that, silly as though it sounds.

All Prince albums, fcuz, evoke pictures and a
lot of feelings, memories and such. But this is
the one album that gives of an atmospheric vibe
that conjures an actual image without it being
"compromised" by artwork or videos or promotion
shoots and such.

^ ^ its funny how such a small reply can make me laugh!!

i hear you istenszek
about you having a certain image pushed into your mind
by the promotions or live acts of the music

sometimes what we think of is influenced by these things..
especially from such a powerfully graphic performer such as prince
he certainly makes a big statement about what you should feel

1978- For You - sweet, summer days longing for love.

1979- Prince - angst and desperation mixed with sappy drama

1980 - Dirty Mind -- Early rumblings of a counter-culture revolt:
Did you hear that? On Disc 2, there are subversive themes asking me "Are You in or out?" I'm in Prince, I'm in.

1981- Controversy -- The revolt reaches a frenzy! headbang
Shh, listen. These subversive messages are continuing. My parents don't know where I am, but I am in boots and raincoats with counter-culture crowds having sex and planning a fucking revolution. When I sing this album (especially along with DM), I help send a COVERT MANIFESTO around the world. Rise up divergents, rise up all ye fringe dwellers. Let's overthrow the universe. Hahahaa! evillol

1982- 1999 - The guy is a fucking genius. Not only is he a revolutionary. He's a visionary. A fucking prophet. Motifs are emerging that stretch across mutliple albums. Let's dissect them as if our very 11 year old lives depend on it. (Um, did he just dedicate a thrust to God?)

1984. Purple Rain -- Wait a minute. This fucking album cover has codes on it. Go get the holy water and the witchcraft book from the library. Look at all these symbols. I need to interpret them and read too much into every phrase spoken, backmasked, and penned. Who screamed, was it you?

1985. Around the World in a Day -- Wha? Um, OK I like Prince so I'm going to make myself like this. Raspbery Beret, America, Temptation, fuck it... I really DO like it. Hey, where's our code song? Oh, Paisley Park, kewl head trip, man. Why does this album keep bringing God up when I'm getting horny. I can't be sexual and reverent at the same time ... or can I?

1986. Parade - Culturally challenging, yet not as exotic as AWIAD. Listening makes me feel so European. I think I'll study French.

1987. Sign of the Times -- Holy grail. The apex of all things Prince. Honest, original themes.

1988. Lovesexy -- Dreamland. Intense. Mystical. Makes me want to pray and fuck.

1989. Batman - Dark, gloomy, rough, hypnotic. Otherworldly.

1990. Graffiti Bridge -- Help. Something's wrong with Prince. He looks great with long hair but this album is shit and only half the songs are his. I didn't pay my hard-to-come-by college money to hear Morris and Tevin, damnit. Don't tell him, just hum and hope he'll grow out of it. Even a genius has to crap every now and then.

1991. Diamonds and Pearls - Who the fuck are all these black people? Why is Prince trying to be all hard. Who the fuck is Tony M? What the fuck is a jughead? What the fuck is wrong with Prince's hair? Prince is on drugs.

1992. Love Symbol - Oh good, new symbols to interpret.Great lyrical metaphors. Let's hold a dorm floor meeting to see who can decipher Morning Papers first. Prince has finally returned...What? These rapping muthfuckas are still here and Tony M. just interrupted the perfectly good Love 2 the 9s. Why the fuck are this booties booming in the midst of a really good and sweet love song. Kristie Alley is annoying as hell. I can't listen to this without the remote in hand. What is happening. neutral

I'm going to find Jesus. I'll be back in 7 years after I reject traditional religion for agnosticism and homemade spirituality.. I'm throwing all these Prince albums, boots, posters, and collectibles away. My Apostolic pastor said they have evil spirits attached to them. sad . Good-bye hard earned money and things I'll later have to pay through the nose for on Ebay.

[1992-1999- Out to Lunch: Existing in a void where I'm only singing, praising, catching the Holy Ghost, reading the Bible and only listening to gospel music.]

1999- Traveling to Iowa late at night. Radio's on some light jazz station. A beautiful soprano love song comes on. Wait, that voice sounds familiar: "I was born to love you, this is true. Extraordinary..." I think that's Prince. It's Prince! It's Prince! He's still making music, and they're still playing him on the radio. Wonder what's been happening the last 7 years? Checklist: 1. Go to Best Buy and purchase the entire catalog in one spree. God won't mind. 2. Read up on Prince on the Internet, hey this Prince.org site looks cool. 3. Make plans to attend this upcoming 'Celebration' at Paisley Park.

Well, just listened to everything I missed. I like New Power Soul and the Vault but that's about it razz (seriously)

New Year's Eve 1999 - Rave - This pay per view special was kick ass. I'm going out to get Rave. It's sure to be a chart-topper especially with Baby Knows on it.

2000-2003One Nite Alone/Musicclub stuff/Rainbow Children-- I'm not digging the Purple trip anymore, but I'll hang in there out of loyalty. I haven't really enjoyed a full album since Batman. I guess GB wasn't a one album dementia.

2004 - Musicology - It's a good chicken and potatoes meal, but I want steak! :wah:!

2005 -- bored Waiting for the next kick-ass album. I need drama. I need a return to the counter-culture revolt. And don't go appropriating code words for JW shit either. I hate that. Leave that stuff be.
I still adore you Prince after all these years batting eyes

Hmm...Usually they remind me of what was going on in my life or in his, or how talented he is, or the movie or video that goes along with a certain song/album.
Other than that, a certain mood (uplifted, sad) perhaps.

So surely when the Revolution was around you thought, "who the ** are all these WHITE people."

Why should it matter? He's always worked with black people, but when they were in the spotlight of the group it's disturbing to you?

Based on that, I'd say you were prejudice.

We should definitely not go down this race path. Prince is Black and works with Black people. Next.

If I can riff on this for a moment.... I will say his "blackest" period, if you can call it that, is the work he did on in the early NPG (e.g. when he was writing tunes like "The Max") and most recently on New Power Soul. Straight up R&B and funk there. Most of the band was black, there were Black dancers and back-up singers. Notable for him, because he usually strives to mix it up a bit.

Anyway. That was two cents, I need three cents change.
Come here, babe.. yeah...

I'll not going to spend too much defending the tongue in cheek "black people" remark that was part of my kick-ass essay. rolleyes

I don't care to argue that I'm not a racist. Especially since I'm a black woman.

Black people doing R&B and rap is so cliche. I don't want that from Prince. I hate it. And since Prince hadn't had a predominantly black posse for years, of course that stood out when he did.

My love for Prince was ignited by the mix of cultures and genres. I loved the Revolution and I don't like when he goes especially urban.

That annoyed me and I'm sure many people felt that even though they may not say it since people are so hypersensitive.

I wrote a lot of reflections that I'm very fond of.

Yet you're not going to take one statement out of my essay and create unnecessary drama. Please! talk to the hand

As a side note, Synthia, a black person can b racist 2wards black people.
Just as an Asian person can b racist 2wards Asian people.

Heres what certain things remind me of:

She's alway in my hair - Nestle Clusters

The Truth - Turok Dinosaur Hunter

Symbol Album - Woolworth & being too stupid to follow up the hints of a girl I really liked

The most beautiful girl in the world - Wasting my time with a girl I had dreamed of for years only for her to pretend she like me to get one over on her friend who did like me...what a waste.
