Did you guys ever see Prince's preformance on AMA 1995

I remember I used to have it taped watched it over and over again trying to learn the choreography...I saw it again and I noticed Prince and Mayte danced VERY sexy and the camera would pull back alot...once even let a stilled shot of the audiance it seemed like the producers freeked out and were scrablmbling to put anything on tv that wasn't Mayte spreading her legs, pouring water on her chest. Prince getting his face down by her ass....it just made me laugh how risque Prince used to be and how the producers of the show kept pulling back the camera!! lol

Is that the performance where he hit himself with the mic doing one of his patented microphone dances? Then during the rest of the performance you can see a red mark develop on his cheek where the mic hit him. (And no, not his ASS CHEEKS! LOL)
Silent shouts, I hope you hear
I'm calling out to your body
Baby, you know just what to do
Close the door, no interlude

One of Prince's worst moments on television, if you ask me. The performance was alright, for a lipsynch job, but the whole incident with Quincy and the lollipop will always be what I consider one of Prince's worst moments. There will be people who say it was funny, but he came off as a complete assclown that night.

what was the year that he did Interative and edorphinemachine...that was incredible...I really thought that was the begining of a huge comeback. Instead he ruined the studio version, shelved interactive and sabataged the whole Gold project.

I don't think he ever performed those songs on any AMAs. He did do those songs, I believe, at the VH-1 Honors.

At the '95 AMAs, they played Purple Medley, and then Prince danced and lipped to Billy Jack Bitch, 319 and maybe some other song, but I can't recall because...because...because all I can remember is him standing on stage during the 10th anniversary performance of We Are The World with a lollipop in his mouth and not singing. And then he stuck the lollipop in Quincy's face after Quincy tried to get him to sing. Huge loser moment.

I believe he lip-synced Billy Jack Bitch,, I Hate U and 319. Then he got a Lifetime Achievement Award from Nona Gaye. He was doing a lot of lip-syncing around that time.

He performed part of Interactive and all of Endorphinmachine at the VH1 Honors, but I can't remember the year.

Riiiiight.

Quincy Jones wasn't goofing off that night. Prince really showed his ass that night...er...figuratively speaking, of course.

lip-synching made that performance lame. The lolipop thing was classic Prince behavior though. Did they actually expect him to sing along? Actually I would have been somewhat disappointed if he had. He should have just stayed in his seat.

So, let me see if I understand correctly. You think that it's freakin' BAD ASS to disrespect other people? Because that was very disrespectful. Universaluv is right in saying that he should have just stayed in his seat. I think it was very un-Prince-like for him to have even been on that stage with all of those people anyway. But then, he wasn't Prince then; he was "whoosh-THUNK!"

I haven't seen this in a while, but did he come to the stage or did he happen to already be on stage when everyone else was called back up for that dreadful rendition of "We Are The World" and had no escape? Either way, I thought the lollipop thing was funny. "Wanna lick?...sike."

i agree totally that wasnt right. and what if all of the members of the npg band disrespected him by not playing the songs that were rehearsed for his concerts and decided they wanted to do it their damn way/or didnt want to play at all i wouldnt think that p would like that very much.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Prince didn't write "We Are The World", or sing on it when it was originally recorded. He declined to participate in the song, but submitted a separate song to the USA for Africa project in 1985. That Quincy would think he would participate in that gawd awful rendition that played out on the 1995 AMA's was naive on his part. Clearly they hadn't reshearsed a damn thing as barely anyone could remember the words. Was Prince being an ass... yes. Was the crap funny, to me ... yes.

Prince's band (who he employs) refusing to play what they're employer wants them to play is a horse of a different color.

There was alot of BS around the making of We Are The World, and where all the money eventually went. I don't remember the whole story off the top of my head, but look it up, and you will see why Prince didn't want to be associated with that, but instead chose to mock it.

no, apparently you don't understand me correctly at all. I don't know all the circumstances that lead to why Prince was even on stage but TO ME is seemed he didn't want to be on stage at all...and probably would have loved to be in his seat..

Completely disagree. That performance was awesome as hell. Plus he made it clear he was lip-syncing (he was chewing gum the whole time). And F*^% We Are the World. I thought it was funny. I remember after that performance people were giving ME props (just cuz I like him). Awesome showing...

Let's make this clear; I am not mad about anything. I was just really disappointed. I have those moments where, just for a quick sec, I look beyond the musician. It's usually in those quick secs where I am jarred back to reality and have to immediately just put on a CD. Some true colors aren't beautiful...like a rainbow.

And let's get it right. Prince didn't have to be on that stage if he didn't choose to be. Call it badass, or ballsy, or defiance; call it whatever you want to make it seem like it's somehow cool. At the end of the day, it was a grown man...sucking on a lollipop...while everyone else was singing. Wait, you're right! That is BADASS!! OMG! OMFG PRINCE ROX MY SOX WITH HIS JUVENILE BEHAVIOR!!.

That's just the way I feel about it, and I'm fine if I stand alone on this. I thought it was embarrassing as a fan.
