I Have A Problem With The Revolution Band I understand that the Revolution band broke up in 1986, but everytime I watch the Sign O The Times concert video, I don't know what this band was considered. You know the band that played with Prince during 1987-1989 featuring Sheila E. and Cat. I always consider this band as the reincarnation of The Revolution band. Can anybody clear this up?

I’m not sure I understand the question.. Could you elaborate on the "I don't know what this band was considered" part.

I do believe this band was eventually called the Lovesexy band (If I am wrong, someone feel free to correct me )

Weren't they the NPG but just never really called so? Kinda like how the Revolution wasn't never really named so until the 1999 album.

The band never "officially" had a name. That it, it was never referenced as having a name through out the tours they played.
I'd say this: It was definately not anything to do with the Revolution, that is, it existed as a definate separate entity, in Prince's eyes, after the disbandment of the Revolution - the band had ended, Prince moved on, so it was over, this was a new band. The Lovesexy Band is a fairer title, since this band was in existence during the album's conception. SOTT was half done during the time of the Revolution, so it was a very transitional LP. The 'NPG' label hadn't been thought of by the time this band was in effect (the SOTT tour) so it doesn't apply either. The Lovesexy Band is a happy medium. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

True, they never had an official name during the SOTT/Lovesexy tours, but most fans know who you're talking about if you say "the Lovesexy band" .Currently at the NPGMC you can download the track "Strange Relationship" recorded live in March 1987. The advert clealy states that it was "Recorded live with the Lovesexy band". Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

IMHO.. Space for sale...

This is easily Prince's best band. They ran circles on the Revolution because everyone in the band was a superior musician(with the exception of the comic foils ). Sheila E. stated that she hated when the SOTT/LOVESEXY band was disbanded because it was Prince's best band. I completly agree with her. Their live performances were so damn good too. I cannot honestly believe that some people will adamantely state that The Revolution was a better live unit than SOTT/Lovesexy Can you imagine how good studio versions of Play In The Sunshine and I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man would have been if this band were on the album.
