Prince on American Idol

With the way things are today, I don't think Prince would make it to the finals of American Idol. As far as I can see, the program doesn't encourage the contestants to be musicians, of which Prince is a spectacular one. They don't encourage dancing, of which Prince is spectacular. So that leaves the vocals. I love his vocals, although I don't think he is the best ever singer. I don't think he could compete in falsetto voice the whole time, although as seen on his cover of Joan Osborne's God, and "Betcha by Golly wow", he can take other's songs and make them his own....What do you think?

American Idol is a stupid ass show.... I can't believe they even came out with that... Prince is way too better than that show. He's all natural.

Yeah, today it's about who's young, popular, and has a good voice.
Prince (when he was young) might not have been so popular, and although I adore his voice, it's not what they're looking for.
On any note, none of the "idols" will be around in 5 years, so that shows what people want these days.
One-hit wonders. lol

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

American idol is beneath anyone of any decent calibre of artistry. Why would Prince ever want to be involved in trash like that? Recently, my most supportive teacher turned on me an made a snide comment of how I reminded him of the singers on american idol who were not as good as they thought. I was insulted that he would even put me into that category, regardless of whether I sing well or not. My artistry, whatever quality it is, is much more serious than the fluff of that show. Likewise, Prince or any other true artist should not even consider such pettiness. As for my former music teacher who turned on me when it looked like I might be more successful than him, I never replied, I just stopped talking to him. Everything is relative, by thinking in terms of such absolute ability it turns music into a damn joke.

Not only can people not come up with an original idea musically, they also can't come up with an original idea television wise either. That show is nothing but a modern day version of "Star Search" which also bored the hell out of me back in the 1980s.

When something sells, then everyone has to copy it. I saw a commercial for what I thought to be a remaking of the old television show "Fame" since it had Debbie Allen and also the same logo. When I tuned in to watch it, it was another one of those damn "American Idol" type shows. I'm glad to see it didn't last long.

Last year just for a laugh I thought I'd participate in Dutch "Idols", I went to the gathering of hopefulls thinking "okay then let's see how this farce is working"

I told them who I was, what I did for a living, that I'm a musician and have plenty of stage experience. All I got was "Yes, yes, now could you please sing your song?"

So I did, I sang "Old and wise" by Allan Parsons and sang it in the most relaxed way I could (one thing I learned from all the people who do participate in that rubbish is that they always performed tensed up) After finishing, the Jury looked at each other and then they turned to me and said:

"Sir, you have a nice powerful voice and a great expression but... frankly we don't see you appearing on a poster in a teenage girl's bedroom. We are sorry but you're not through."

Heh, I guess that not even a legend such as Freddy Mercury would've made it through to the finals.
