very underrated.... Yes... I love that album. It pisses me off that no one appreciates good music by Prince. God these people have no idea about this man. Paul G II

Personally, I love Emancipation. But I do think it was slightly overstuffed. And of course it didn't help that he released it during the whole symbol era when nobody really gave two shits about him. Disc 2, as a whole, is my favorite part of the set.

A great track.
Emancipation's production is dreadful, this is almost universally agreed, but many of the tracks are top-notch, only let down by this soul-less production of the era. Emancipation has no shortage of ballads and slow tracks, and many stray too deep into the sugary-sweet sickly category - One Kiss At A Time strays near the border, but I think he just about pulls it off. Don't worry, I can't get pregnant - my ovaries are diseased......

One of my fav prince songs. I love the middle 8. Prince ain't too good at middle 8's, but this one is one of his best.
Shoulda been a single I thought. Way more interesting then the babyfaceish "somebody's somebody".

I agree, one if his best songs on an album that I wish had been edited down just a bit. It would have made a killer double CD, just needed a little live horns IMO. I can hear the synthesized horns on songs like 'JamOTY' and it doesn't mix well with me. 'Get Yo Groove On' sounds like he had the song for a year and just over produced it, not fresh out of his mind.
But J2J, Holy River, Somebody's Somebody, One Kiss, Soul Sanc, Emale are some of my fave Prince tunes. Actually, most of my least fave Prince albums -Rave, GBridge, NPS- simply sound over-produced to me, like he had the songs sitting around waiting to be released years before and just kept changing them. Listening to outtakes of the "Chocolate Box/Charade/MovieStar" album and then listening to their later official released versions on Graffiti Bridge and Pandemonium is a perfect example. I haven't listened to GB in over 5 years, but my B minus sounding 'Choc Box' gets regular play. People always talk about over-production. To my understaning, over-producing something means relying on the studio or editing too much and taking the focus away from the music itself. For the most part, I like how Emancipation sounds crisper and clearer than a lot of Prince's 80s stuff. The songs are pretty good, and the production doesn't seem out-dated. Can somebody explain to me what "over-producing" something means, and how this affected Emancipation?

God these people have no idea about this man. person taste is a very objective thing my friend..best to just enjoy the album for what it gives you then worrying about what it doesnt give to others.. cause while i like some of the songs i think the project would have worked best as a good double cd or an excellent (dare i say) classic single disc.....
