Chaos - What's so bad about it?

Yesterday I was in a local cd shop & found a primo-looking used copy of Chaos & Disorder. I noticed the price was reasonable ($7.99) so I bought it.
I listened to it in the car & really enjoyed most of it. Clever lyrics, rocking guitars, what's not to like? So, why do so many people slam this cd? I don't get it, but then I happen to like NEWS as well. It seems like alot of folks who call themselves fans really don't care for much since the Revolution broke up.

I think it's a great album. A flawed gem.

I like this album. I think it gets a lot of flack because it seems as if it was really easy for Prince to make (and toss off). In my opinion, how hard a person striuves to make art shouldn't be the basis for judging or appreciating it.

I like C&D. It's not a great cd, but it has a few good songs and I like the guitar work too. Zannalee kicks ass!!

For a bunch of old outtakes, "Chaos" isn't a bad CD. The guitar stuff slams pretty well.."I Like It There" is a rocking tune (anyone ever seen the video?) and "Into The Light-I Will" is incredible. I like the last track "had u", his love song to Warner Bros.

It's quite unique a record in his catalog. It's not just that there's more guitar but he's songwriting is different too, the mixing is different, the overall mood is different. It's different!

Well, I stand corrected.
I guess there are a few more folks who like it.
But, I'm still wondering why the people who don't care for it-don't.
I have noticed it is the cd that shows up most in used record bins.

Seen the "I like it there" video. It's P's trio thang. P, Sonny, and M.B. It's got the same production as say "dolphin". For those who have seen it. But I like it 'cause it's from C&D which is one of my fave P albums. As far as who likes this album to me separates "real" from "questionable". cool

I think Prince's comparison of the album to The Black Album is valid, both albums were compiled with a feeling of spite, it comes across especially well with the packaging and overall tone of C&D.

But, like TBA, it's not the material itself that is spiteful, although it is often dark, since both records were largely compilations of existing material, rather than recorded together as a cohesive project.

The flack the album gets comes from a) fans who take Prince's self-made mythology literally, and b) fans who just ain't that big on a guitar/rock based-sound. Prince's fanbase stretches a wide-base of tastes, he won't please everyone all the time.
