Why can't Prince just relax in interviews?

I really hate him in all interviews. He is so shy and nervous. Even Michael jackson is more relaxed. Prince is also a dull conversationlist. Which is a shame as his music is pretty funny as are his concerts.

What u reckon? U reckon Prince will ever give a normal interview like the rest of them? Too much paisley park dictatorship has messed with his verbal communication skills. He seems to emote nothing except a deep, serious, monotone voice!

I remember one o zone interview around "new power soul", in UK. He was so uneasy, he was actually laughing about his name change. It was weird and infact unsettling. It just looked fake. It would help if his band members were social or funny, like tony m and rosie gaines were, aswell as wendy and lisa, who were great in those situations as his public speaker

I think Prince often hangs around with suck ups, which makes him dull....the people who woudl speak in prince's band were proberly not suck ups (rosie, wendy and lisa, tony m....)

What are you talking about? I just saw a recent interview with Matt Lauer of today show, and he was so normal, that I then truly realized that a lot of the weirdness was his stage persona. all the recent talk of bringing music back into music and leading by example for the youth to play an instrument, his conversation with Beyonce, his comments about Alicia Keys...you need to check out HQ, look at a few clips of 2004 interviews, then come back to this subject.

Prince is shy when it comes to stuff like that. Especially when he has to open up. I know it's weird to think him as shy, but when he is with the music he just clicks with it and no more shy. Without the music he is shy

What are you talking about. All of his interviews last year were good. He could never be as bad as MJ.

i don't think prince enjoys doing interviews. i think he's very sensitive about how people are going to respond about the stuff he "really" has to say, and if he gets wind of people razzing on thoughts that he's really close to that he discusses in interviews, he clams up and just spits out a bunch of soundbytes like a talking doll.

that's how i see it, anyway.

Because people are different and they respond to situations in their own way.

Don't know why but I'm the same way. Even around big crowds I just sit and watch people. I can understand him being shy and stuff.

Back in 98 or so he started to loosen up more around black journalists/hosts.

Watch Tavis SMiley or even Sinbad for gods sake!

Because he has to watch out from unscrupulous interviewers that twist his words.

I would certainly have to agree with that. In fact, it goes back a bit further than last year. I think we all recognize that Prince is shy, but what I see in his interviews, rather than the shyness, is the thought he puts into his answers before he responds. Rather than sound-bytes (as someone mentioned), I think he generally gives very intelligent responses to intelligent questions. I have also seen him exhibit his sense of humor in several depending, it seems, on how comfortable he is or how well he knows the interviewer. All in all, in the last few years, I've been very impressed with most of what he's had to say, whether I agreed with it or not.

He seems to be relaxed nowadays.
If he was any more relaxed, I'd think he was asleep.

lol

But other than that, he's shy, somewhat insecure even at his older age.

There is nothing wrong with being shy. I've been like that my whole life. It's normal to me. I think it has to do with what you've been through coming up in life. And then when you find a passion in music, you just let it all go... thats what I do when I'm on the dance floor at the club. I don't care.

It's a condition really. If he gets too relaxed & opens his mouth too wide while speaking his jaw clamps down on the nearest available pussy. He's been arrested for it in the past & tries to keep it in check... poor thing comfort
