why do so many of us wish for a reunion of this group ???? i know they were great and prince had his biggest commercial success with this group...BUT..do u think in 2005 it would really have the same effect that it had in 1983-1986 ????
music has changed...production has changed...and the image we all have of prince and the minneapolis sound has changed...for me the best thing about a reunion is if the old wendy and lisa song writing influence returned and i have to admit i miss the prince & the revolution FUNK and the image of band unity...i just wonder would it be as fresh today ??? or would anyone besides old school diehard fans even care ???

Its all about New Power Revolution:

hey and lets not forget Apollonia on the Triangle
Rosie gaines doing backround screams
Jerome as a backup dancer
and Tommy Barbarella tossing his hair and giving sultry looks

Prince wouldn't even have to be on stage lol
If you will, so will I

Thing is, when P performs his classic joints with his new band, they are adapted to their sound... More jazzy/soulful etc. I would like to see Prince perform his classic joints with The Revolution again just to hear THAT sound they had, that only they can play.

A reunion wouldn´t make much sense in my opinion but the thing I wish the most is if Prince, Wendy and Lisa would record an album together only with acoustic instruments. With songs in the same vein like "Sometimes it snows in April". It was fantasic to see him with Wendy performing "Reflection" on that TV-Show last year.
I know Prince recorded an acoustic album alone (The Truth) but somehow I find the songs on it a bit boring. The chemistry between the three is missing.

and people seem to wanna keep living out their younger years vicariously through the rev; they wish for "the good ol' days", so to speak. you can't be in your teens and 20s forever. neither can the rev.

I agree and it would be a complete let down because it would not live up to expectations. The Revolution was a great studio band, but I honestly feel that they are so revered because of the nostalgia factor. All parties are in different places now, so it would not be safe to assume that their sounds would mesh well 2gether in the present. It's like watching Stevie Wonder performing with Wonderlove on the Songs In The Key Life essential albums DVD, it was good but it just wasn't the same because everyone had changed visibly and musically. And though they were able to capture the brilliance of Wonders past work, I think a new collab would not be a return to the 70's run.

The visible physical changes become more apparent when you see them all together and though the nostalgia factor will cloud judgement, the reality of the age process will began to settle in on all parties involved, ie. mainly the audience members.

all those of us that attended the Family Jamm seemed to be able to move on and live happy and productive lives....no emotional scars have been reported.

it is true...if they got back together it wouldnt be the same...but...i must say wendy and lisa's influence sure "seemed" to stretch prince's imagination a bit beyond the straight funk or straight rock mode...parade is my favorite prince album because its just sooooo rich in textures...rhythms...unique sounds...and im sure that the revolutions combined influence's had much to do with the choice of colors during that period...

Thumparello

His greatest band was Andre Cymone, Dez Dickerson, Dr. Fink, Gayle Chapman etc.

They were the shit! All the rest just vibed off what they started.

Revolution was great, the "other" was innovative and he should have never broken them up but his ego got in the way.

Personally, I thought that the Family Jamm was just a taste. If Prince did something with the Revolution, I'd be first in line for tickets.

His music seems a little too Las Vegasy lately. I would love to see him harmonizing with Wendy and Lisa, Yelling "Doctor!" to Fink, and jamming to old and new tunes to the jungle beats of Bobby Z. Throw in some sexy sax from Eric Leeds, and you've got yourself one amazing show.

But it can't just be old music. I'd love to hear them tear into some of the NPG tunes that they had nothing to do with, and even some BRAND NEW Prince and The Revolution songs! Now who could argue with that?

Prince is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. You all know that. If he re-united with The Revolution? Half his fans would whoop with joy, satisfying their own nostalgia trips. The other half would accuse him of making a backward's step and treading water.

Personally, I'd love to see P continuing with the current NPG line-up a little longer and actually hear what they can come up with in the studio. (I don't think 'Musicology' highlights their skills in the same way the original line-up managed to on record). We need at least one k-i-l-l-e-r funk track with John's drumming. razz

However... as someone who wasn't there the first time round, I'd love to see even a one-off special with The Revolution. Or a Celebration where, each night, a different Prince line-up plays the definitive album - when they were associated with Prince - in its' entirety. drool That would be cool.
I'm inclined to say that it'll never happen. But it's Prince,. so... shrug That's what I love about him.
[Edited 5/24/05 5:21am]

I would like to say that as well, but how about the idea of the Revolution reform but also at some point (e.g a recording of some sort) featuring John Blackwell on drums as he would of been a great powerhouse for such a line-up back in the day smile .

Prince even performing with Wendy last year was more than enough nod
I'm with the NOW!

to me,it's BOTH.

it just depends on what he wants at a paticular time.

or, try looking at it this way:

when you want to achieve orgasm do you always need a partner? no.although lovemaking with a significant other can be ecstatic as you both reach simultaneous climax, sometimes you just want to engage in auto-eroticism.

that's how i see prince & his music.
