I was shocked he put Sexy MF out as a single. I mean, personally I'm not offended by the swearing, but the audacity to put out a song that was actually built around a swear word - amazing. I know it was edited for radio, but still. And it got into the top ten in the UK! I can't remember another song in the charts that swore in your face upto that point, and there's only been a few since. Sure rappers swear, but it is usually quick and under the breath - not up there on the title of the song! A fantastically brave move.

this is a good thread. i'll have to think about this one just to remember the SPECIFIC moments..cos its true that prince has shocked [even] me.

-while i'm on this point: i think being shocked is kinda USEFULL in forcing us to face our inner sensitivities. but also its like he's out there "pushing the envelope" for us & we're like going "oooh, is it safe?"

Well I am not easily shocked but sometimes I feel embarrassed watching him. Like when he wore those assless pants, or some of the Arsenio Hall performances. Or that interview as Tora Tora where he wispered his answers to Mayte and was wearing that ridiculous thing around his head. I think that was when I was most shocked. Talking about fucking up your image, man!
