Prince just mentioned on country music awards

I just turned on the TV and the country music awards are on. They were introducing Kenny Chesney before he performed. They said that Kenny sold more tickets last year then any other artist except Prince!!!

I just wanna see Keith Urban, yummy!

COuntry Music was interesting for a little while after Shania Twain broke onto the scene and reinvented the Country Diva image change the entire landscape of female country singers from wholesome blue colar wives into Hollywood sluts, but it has since become less interesting.

I still dig Mary Chapen Carpenter's music, Kentucky Railroad was o.k., Brooks N Dunn know a good tune, Bellamy Bros got me up with RedNeck Girl, and Garth Brooks was brave in what he did if not smart. shrug

Yes, most of the good ones have died.
My husband & usually listen to Americana. Most of the good ones are not interested in getting popular in the country music industry.
Country music is so commercial & political & patriotic...

i think modern country and modern R&B are both suffering from the same disorder. anything i like from either genre is either old or performed by old musicians. it's been that way for me since, i don't know, the mid-80s.

I hate country pop, and the whole fad where every white guy under 40 thought of Johnny Cash as his wise father figure. The first is an unberable collection of lyrical clichés over poppy music that couldn't be more ordinary. The only thing that seems to make it bearable is the sexiness of the femeale or mal country star. The second... well there was a time where it was uncool to like country, as Barbara Mandrell informed us many years ago... and then it looked like every guy in search of some down home authenticity bought a country hat and played Cash. Of course, He deserved every great compliment he ever received but how he was coopted... that is a different story.

I'm not sure if they count as country, but Alison Krauss & Union Station are an absolutely incredible band. Besides them, Loretta Lynn, and a few others, the only good country artists, to me, are dead.

first of all let me start by saying...that country music has NEVER been my favorite...I actually dispised it for a long time BUT with that said...I have to agree with you (and yes they are def considered country) that Alison Krauss & Union Station are indeed absolutely incredible!! whoa! Alison's voice is like no other's voice! simply harmonic really!
My husband and son LOVE country music so CMT is on the TV at my house alot....and I have to say..for as cheezy as it can be at times...there is something to be said about country music...almost everyone plays the guitar and the songs almost always portray a positive message ...talk about real musicians...gotta hand it too the genre..it's all talent for sure.

again...it almost pains me to admit how good the music really is...there seems to be an up and coming tide of "new country" that is really talented.
anyway...that's my confession of the year. neutral
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

Kenny Rogers played a charity concert here a few weeks ago, and I actually wanted to go. My parents listened to him when I was a kid. I'm sure I would have know alot of the songs.

I am sure that the truly talented country artists appreciate P's gift to the music community.
