In This Bed I Scream... Dedicated to Wendy, Lisa and Susannah, I thought
I look into this song a bit. "2 these walls I talk Tellin' 'em what I wasn't strong enough 2 say 2 these walls I talk Tellin' 'em how I cried the day U went away" Maybe referring to Big Tall Wall... "I'm gonna build a big tall wall Stone circle so U can't get out Big tall wall True love is what it's all about" then... "In this bed I scream Lonely nights I lay awake thinking of U And if I'm cursed with a dream A thousand times I feel whatever I've put U through" Maybe referring to the Dream Factory idea that Wendy and Lisa were so important. Or possibly, the Dorothy Parker dream he shared with Susannah. I just thought this was interesting for some reason. It's a pretty cool, "I'm sorry" song.

I like the pointless breakdown at the end. i think Prince added it on so the cd was exactly 60 minutes. Which was an uttlerly pointless and stupid idea. Like the ending of "mr happy", what the fuck?
Prince spent way too much time doing pointless shit like that and it proberly ruined a couple of songs.

hell, the end of bed eye scream is my favorite part of the song. it reminds me of that murky industrial stuff that goes on in the segue between computer blue and darling nikki. love that.

Love this song! One of his greatest "I'm sorry for being such a poopyhead" songs. All good things they say never last...

I love this song. It's one of the best songs he put out since "Purple Rain". It sounds kinda like the "old Prince". Andy is a four letter word.

Wow. I always kinda wanted to know what you thought of the "Emancipation" songs that harked back to his old days - you know, you being the hardcore "true prince" protagonist. Most folks just completely dismissed those songs and didn't hear the similarities. "New World" to me also touches the same ground as some of the cuts from the "1999"-era do. Of course, in a bit different way. But the musical structuring is essentially the same.

I hear a little of it in "New World" and the drum machines and bells in "Da, Da, Da" also. He could have left that damn rap off of it though. Andy is a four letter word.

Imagine, just imagine this gem produced not by 90s Kirky J-influenced , but by 1980s PRINCE. Could have been a masterpiece. "How embarrasing to be human!"

DITTO. We neeeded a 12" re-mix of that with the ending extended.

overruled.
The ending stays. It is quite a trip when on the headphones-- but imagine if wendy and lisa were on it too-- that would've been the perfect spot for them. That and soul sanctuary. My God, "Soul Sanctuary" would have really needed Wendy & Lisa to re-work it. That's a great point.

I always thought it a bit lackluster, like it needed something else, personally. W & L would've hooked that shit up, imo Dynamic Savior Said: Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?

I used to forward the track to that part if I didn't have time to listen to the whole thing Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance

Wasnt there a thread a couple mos. back talking bout how the title was really a cue for the band?
I'm pretty sure they were saying that he was saying "In this bed Ice Cream"-- Ice cream being the cue-- to what, I cant remember-- Somebody save this thought from being tossed to the orgdogs to be misconstrued. it's fallen a bit out of favor with me in the last several years, but it's still a pretty great moment, and a highlight of the album (especially of that piece of shit first disc). "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

Yes .... This song is one of the highlights of Emacipation.
THe project dripped with optimism, humility and reconcilation. It seemed Prince was in a really good place when he made this record. Unfortunately the baby died and his relationship with Mayte went to crap which opened the door for the bitter madness that came after (which saw its peak on TRC). Musiclogy seemed to signal that he's comming out of it a bit. I sure hope this new project is more than just live cuts of old songs makeing the recovery complete.

wendys twin sister and prince's ex. pretty hot back in the day. you can see her in the Girls & Boys video. Sounds really awkward for Wendy, but it sounds like his relationships with women are nothing less than out of the ordinary. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't want my boss dating my sister. thx fo the info. Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

I think this is my fave cut off the album. U always hear that fool saying he has no regrets. It bothers me when people say they have no regrets. Though it's not the same as saying U don't make mistakes, I see it as a very similar claim. This song actually expresses a HUGE amount of regret, and I appriciate the honesty from it.

I love this song! But you can´t put it on a compilation for your friend. For me this song is only for fans.
And every time I hear it I´m looking forward to .. thesexofit said: the pointless breakdown at the end

i love this song.....
its frustrating though knowing that prince sent this to wendy and lisa to work on..they send him back contributions and then he ends up not using em..... and the end makes the song...it just needs to be a lil bit longer and have wendy and lisa talking ala "poor poor lonely computer".... Space for sale...

Wow, I'm glad I'm among a good many die-hards who love this song. For some reason it took me a few years to rediscover this song, although I loved the breakdown immediately.
It actually would have fit nicely on Purple Rain, thematic wise and musically.
