rebirth him posing nude was a sign of rebirth??

think about it: were you born with clothes on? nudity isn't just pornographic, y'know; the lovesexy cover goes perfectly with what was going on in p's life/career. one of many epiphanies, as it were.

Either he was using his nudity as a metaphor for the freedom and accessibility and openness of his new sound . . .

or he was just being the crazy, controversial freak we all know and love.

Or both.

The album should have been wrapped in a plain brown wrapper and Prince should have spread his legs for the picture and bared all.

ooh, GOD no. it woulda defeated the total purpose of things.

why ask questions that everybody knows the answer for????

He did it for two reasons:
- spiritual rebirth (the theme of the record)
- to create controversy (that little sucker just NEEDS attention...lol)

simple

i wonder was p uncomfortable being naked?? am curious cause i know i would be. shake

seeing as it was his 4th album with a nude pic on it (for you, prince and 1999 had nude/semi-nude pix too) i think he had to have been pretty comfy with it. nod

And who's that guy on the bottom of the Dirty Mind vinyl album (backside)? He's kinda looking "exposed" as well -- though it is just a shadow.

Personally, I think it was brilliant.

One of his best album covers.

Sure, it's unerving. A little icky. But, I admire the guy. DUring a period of time where ROCK & R&B was all about testosterone and the Machismo factor, he went totally fem--A move even the gayest of all male singers (Michael Jackson & George Michael) would have never tried. Indeed MJ & George Michael where trying to "butch" it up.

THis doesn't mean I like that picture though.
It was really really really really hard to walk into a store during the 80's in Birmingham Deep-fucking-south Alabama and buy that thing. shrug

Just my two cents:
Lovesexy was and is -IMO- his boldest album ever, and the album cover captured that moment perfectly. Although I feel Prince has changed a lot since 1988, Lovesexy captured what it was to be Prince for the first two decades of his career: Sex, God, Funk, Love, Faith, and absolutely Fearless.
Prince has said people's reaction to the Lovesexy album cover in a says more about them than about the portrait, and I couldn't agree more.

Well, apparently, you care enough. What you say about the music is true, but damn, let people expound. If further commentary wasn't necessary, why would we have this site?
