Are we unclear still as to what nationality Prince is? And do we/should we care?

We are fully aware of fact that this is a black man? Why is griping heard when he talks about "his people" and "black images in media"?

From what I understand, he was also socialized into black culture growing up-- he connected with it, identified himself as such...whats the big deal?

Why all the arguments as to what he is? There's a helluva lotta people growing up in black neighborhoods whose background is varied (to say the least)...let it go...take a deep breath. He's black...Deal with it and stop trying to define him.

I don't know or care what Prince is. Whatever he is makes no difference to me or how I listen to his music.

I can certainly understand the confusion about what race he is though. He's not a person who's race is entirely obvious based on his looks. As we all know, early on in his career Prince deliberatly created confusion as to his ethnic background. Whether it was his idea or Warner Bros. isn't really important; what is is that the confusion has never been publicly cleared up -at least not to the extent that everyone who originally heard he was mixed/Italian/Filipino/whatever all heard about it.

Sadly, there are fans of all races who are too hung up on race and the effect P.'s skin tone supposedly has on his music and/or behaviour.

Although Bob George did call him a skinny motherfucker with a high voice, maybe that's saying he's French, but I doubt it.
