I think it would depend on the circumstance. His understanding of the situation would require accurate knowledge in order to evaluate the need correctly. He might not have 'time' to determine if all requests made of him are worthy.
If he was truly aware that the need was sincere, i do think he'd help out. How could he write all of that beautiful music without possessing the huge heart that it displays?
