The artist Cristina: Earliest Prince cover released or unreleased Correct me if I'm wrong, but 80's New Wave Princess Cristina may have recorded the earliest known cover version of a Prince song. This is not including associated artists like The Time or songs written for artists like Ren Woods. The song When U were Mine was only recorded as a demo in 1981 & produced by Robert Palmer who did all the instruments in the Bahamas. The song itself is pure new wave, percolating synth drums & cooing vocals. It's available on the re-issued album of hers Sleep it Off which I highly recommend.

From the second link:
"she (Christina) is especially fond of her deadpan reading of Prince's "When You Were Mine." "It's got this decadent, Gidget-goes-trisexual vibe." Sounds cool. | |
