Yeah people, not all inspiration or good songwriting in the music industry originates from prince. Stevie is one of prince's greatest influences and was writing tons of songs for lots of other artists when prince was still just a kid. As far as I'm concerned stevie is the superior artist (though not necessarily the superior lyricist) and I know that prince would say the same

Exactly. Great points, jack!

I think Prince could have co-wrote this song. Remember, Stevie has been running dry for ten years, where Prince has been going steady, even with record label problems. Also, there was a quote some time back that Prince was supposed to have told Stevie that he needed to get back to recording again....nod
"A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1
People can slam their door, disagree and fight it
But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son?
United States of Division"

The song is very typically a Stevie Wonder song (albeit the basic musical structure might draw heavily on other non-Prince sources).

In a recent interview, Stevie discusses Prince contributing to the song = by him dropping by and laying down guitar. Prince gets vredited for his musical contribution.

No-one, neither Prince nor Stevie makes the slightest suggestion that it is anything other than a Stevie composition, the copyright is registered to Stevie, and Wonder has a long pedigree in crediting artistic and compositional contributions accurately and openly.

Sure, we haven't had an album's worth of material in a long while (although it's known that Wonder has been writing and recording songs during this absence), and no doubt Prince like many other people has been looking forward to the next official release ... but he hasn't suddenly become Stevie's gjost-writer.

I like it quite a bit myself.
The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.
