"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

My first album. Really good, it's still one of my favourites. I love the mystical mythology that echoes everywhere. Really good dance music there too.

There are some good individual tracks on it, but also a lot of unsubstantial filler. The flow of the album isn't good too in my opinion. Could have been much better with less songs on it.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

This is one of my favorite albums too. This album was a big part of the reason I hooked up with my wife, if you can believe that. We had worked together for a couple of months, but never really talked. One day, we were in the office doing our own thing, and I heard her singing "The Continental." This of course sparked conversation and two months later, we were living together.

I also remember buying it on cassette the day it came out, and putting it in my car stereo to play on the way to work and being horrified during Sexy MF.

"You sexy mutha--AAAIIIIOOOOWWW!!"

Damn, I bought the edited version. Had to buy another one later that day.

Why is the Symbol such a great album?

First of all it has songs like:

The Max, Continental, Want to melt with u...this songs are his ultimate 90s sexy dance songs....maybe there are a few better (come?) but they are good!

Then it has at the end some mysterious songs like:

7; And God Created woman; three Chains of Gold; Sacrifice of Victor...where have u ever heard these kind of Alchemy songs before? In tune and in subject never heard before...this makes this album unique....

And it has some classic Prince tunes like:

My name is Prince, 2 the nines and Damn U....

All in all it makes this album a classic Prince album only to be beaten by more focused efforts like Dirty Mind, Lovesexy and Purple Rain; which will beat Symbol because they are more coherent and shorter!

a lot unfortunately , some people have so much hate for Tony M that any album he's on automatically gets dismissed . prince is an excellent album , almost every track is fine ,except for a few silly excursions (Arrogance The Flow) and the segues which though amusing are unnecessary .This album is as much as I could wish for from Prince in all honesty cool
Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

You know this album drives me nuts. There some really great songs.
The things that bother me are real annoying. The Kirstie allie segues, the rapping and how pretentious '3 chains of gold is' .

The rap delivery is effective, but the subject matter is neither serious or silly. With no angst, message or something to laugh about. Why is it there?
To employ his posse?
If there was a co herent story, it's not evident.

Again minus these it's a great album.
