about 80% of everything prince has done since SOTT, and a good deal of what he recorded before that, too.

Kiss is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. James Brown, tho, is highly overrated and I think his influence on Prince, tho clear in many of his songs, is a bit overstated.
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

Do a little research before you make a statement like that. James Brown is the
god-father of soul for a reason.

Possessed is an obvious shout out to James.

That is my least favorite Prince song. I remember six years ago, I was comin home from a football game with a friend and that song was playing on the radio. My friend and I were laughin at that song and how he was singing so high.

No question about it... James Brown (who BTW deserves every bit of praise he has ever received) is Prince's numero uno influence. You can see it in his music and his stage act. It's so much a part of who he is as an artist that he has adopted some of James moves and shouts, going beyond mere imitation and into that "guardian of the tradition" thing. It's hard for people to grasp what James Brown has done for black music -- he's the one who laid the foundation for a new kind of rhythm science that echoes to this day.

I agree with you although I know its probably wrong too , yes James Brown is a classic act whose been hugely influential on popular music , but I've heard 2 or 3 of his albums (albeit one was a greatest hits ) and I've not been that impressed . I didn't like his music anywhere near as much as I was expecting too , but Prince digs him and I love songs like Kiss , Pretty Man , The Work whch oddly are almost tributes to Brown , weird hey ?
Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

I really like the song Kiss too. I'd say the most James Brownish songs for me would be Prettyman, Sexy M.F., Willing and Able, Housquake, Musicology, Horny Pony and I'm sure many more! I love Prince doing funk-Prince/funk/James Brown-esq songs are my favorite style although I love all the styles he dabbles in except Jazz. biggrin

Living In America(chorus)

That's the problem, it looks like, with the Ultimate Live Experience Tour. He didn't do enough of his own music.
