Yes, they probably have the concerts in bootleg form,i.e. poor echoey sound quality shot on a small shakey video-cam from one angle hiding behind a wall whenever the security walks past, and cost a fair chunk of cash from some market trader, and which you'll probably only watch once anyway.

Spoken like someone who hasn't seen a fucking bootleg in his life.
Things have moved on since the 80's, and you'd be pleasantly surprised by the quality of some audience recorded video footage out there.
Don't assume that because it isn't professionally filmed it is shit quality.

I have seen a fair few bootlegs, as it goes. The quality has improved with small digital cameras with higher resolutions, yes. It still doesn't change the fact that they are usually shot without a tripod from a single viewpoint, and the sound picks up the audience as much as the music. Compare it to a professionally shot, multi-angle stereo sound legitimate release, it doesn't even come close, and when someone says Prince should put out legitimate releases of his past tours, and then someone basically says there's no need because bootlegs are available, well I only feel it is fair to point out the poor quality of the majority of these releases.

Concert bootleg videos have their place, especially of tours that have not been officially released, but I do not watch them with Prince goggles on and pretend that they are fantastic when often they are not.

Well personally I wish he would release some concert dvds
Its so much more entertaining when you can actually see the people on stage
and hear through the audience screams neutral
If you will, so will I

I don't see anyone in this thread saying the bootleg audience filmed footage is of similar quality to pro-filmed releases - merely that it is the only alternative in lieu of an official release.

rau1970 asked whether Prince should put out more live dvd's - clearly implying professional legit copies.

freakfeet replied that he already had these. I expanded by adding that what he/she was talking about are only available as bootlegs, and are not of an equivalent to professional videos, in case rau1970 thought they were.

you replied I hadn't seen a bootleg, which I replied I had, and that the quality of recent bootlegs is good. To me, that could suggest to ray1970 that if he bought a more recent bootleg it would be of an equivalent quality to a legit release.

So I reitterated the point I was making was that though the quality has improved it is still far from what a professional version would be.

And that's where we are now... both basically agreeing that bootlegs, while useful and of increasing quality, are not as good as an official release Prince could put out if he could be bothered.

The Nude Tour was horrendous... the worst concert he ever did in my opinion... Batdance? The dancing of Tony and Kirk? It was horrible... the only good thing to come out of it was "The Question of U" which is on one of the new movie DVDs... Grafitti Bridge I think...

I'd love to see these releases:

Purple Rain tour DVD (I'm worried about the quality of my VHS)
Parade tour DVD
Sign O' The Times tour DVD (not the film - full lenght concert)
Lovesexy tour DVD (I'm watching these VHS's since 1993 and I'm gonna die if the tapes are gonna wear out...)
Nude tour DVD
Diamonds And Pearls tour DVD
Act I-II tour DVD
The Ultimate Live Experience tour DVD
Jam Of The Year tour DVD
Musicology tour DVD

cool

Totally agree with all of these.... NPGMC, if anybody out there sees this think about all the money you could make from these !! Loads of us would pay good money for a digital source..so everyone's a winner. LATA from the ONA tour just isn't enough.

Sort it.

What’s with this aversion against boots anyway?
Isn’t this a Prince FAN-site anymore?

So ... I may assume you already own all the legal stuff, at least the legal stuff released in your favourite era.
"And we’re not gonna be satisfied" with the legal stuff.

Besides, there are loads of perfect boots.
Some boots have a even better sound-quality than official stuff, boots like the 1988 Trojan Horse Aftershow or SaTim ‘s 12" Archive v2.0

Even some DVD’s defeat the legal stuff, like Syracuse 1985 (Ladybird), Lovesexy 88 (Excalibur) or
PTV Volume 1 (Fullasoul)

I’m getting tired of fans interested in which album they should buy next, Dirty Mind or SOTT. NOT OWNING THOSE ALBUMS MEANS YOU’RE NO FAN, you’re just interested in Prince’s music. F*ck, I should be on hundreds of fan-sites, because I’m interested in loads of music.

Boots is very interesting stuff for fans, and yes, this is a fan-site.
So people with interest, show some respect for the fans who keep this site interesting.
