Certainly 'Chocolate' and 'Data Bank' both rock when done full-on Prince-style. I would add his version of 'The Voice Inside'. Some of his most passionate vocals are on this cut.

And to be controversial, Martika's vocal on 'Love, Thy Will Be Done' is much better than P's somewhat dispassionate version. I'd still love to hear him do this live with his current band tho. cool

I love THE FAMILY as much as the next Prince fan, but I've said it time and time again that I wish Prince did a version of the Screams of Passion. Maybe with Sheila E

I totally agree."The Screams Of Passion" should have been a Prince/Sheila E. song.

"G-Spot"---Jill Jones recorded this song on her 1987 debut album, but I prefer Prince's version from 1983.

"Open Book"---if Prince had saved this song for himself and released it as a single in the early 90s,it would have been one of his biggest hits.

"The Dance Electric"---this is classic Prince.Although Andre did a good job with it,I think it would have made more of an impact if Prince had saved it for himself.

Thing is, many of these songs wouldn't have been written had it not been for the artist/act they were intended for.

HUH????

I though most were lying about and he gave them to people. Sure a few were written for others...but most were P's to begin with and he gave them the song.

Well, a lot of those artists who he gave songs to - like Patti LaBelle, Kid Creole etc - yeah, I agree - but the protege acts, a lot of that stuff wouldn't have been written if Prince hadn't had the initial idea of creating the project - like the Time or Vanity 6. I guess much of Jill Jone's LP is the exception since a lot of the material existed before that project.

Would like 2 hear:
"Tip 'o' my tongue"
"Standing at the altar"
"If I love u 2nite"
"Shall we dance"

and wasn't "I do anything" by Natural Selection somehow an original Prince composition? Who knows?

does thanks some peeps for bringing up "Yo Mister", one of his best 'forgotten' pop / funk efforts (with thoughtfull lyrics.....YEP...that was way before the JW-times)

But in no way i can see see Prince delivering a better version of that, all by himselve. I mean the instruments played by him, the background vocals he delivers work great with Patti Labelles lead vocals.....just leave it that wayy

Baby youre a trip is another song that works great in the version that is released. Jill Jones has more power in her voice then Prince, and thats exactly what this quite pompous, and therefore uplifting song needs...

and by the way...Prince should have released the version of Nothing Compares to You on the 'Family-album' by himselve.....with his own lead vocals, and not that mediocre, mimicing drab St. Paul put unto it.

I mean, it has a tremendously beautifull 'rising' (orchestral) arrangement by Clare Fischer, and i think it would sound great if Prince did the lead vocals himselve... Better then the Sinaed 'o Connor cover
